Weezer Release New Spring-Inspired EP, SZNZ: Spring

Weezer holds a special place in our hearts here at The Honey POP. The Los Angeles band has blessed us for years with hits like ‘Beverly Hills’ and ‘Buddy Holly’ and continues to provide their fans with great music. In 2021, Weezer released two albums, the arena-shaking Van Weezer and the orchestral-inspired OK Human, both showcasing different sides of the band’s musical versatility.

The band is on a mission to embody the spring season with their latest EP, SZNZ: Spring. The newest EP is the first of a series of four by Weezer, one representing each season. Each song collection is produced in real-time, and each holds its sound. In typical Weezer fashion, SZNZ: Spring carries inspiration from classical music, themes, and opera in typical Weezer fashion.

In honor of new Weezer music, here are some of our favorite tracks on SZNZ: Spring:

‘Opening Night’

The EP’s opener, rightfully named ‘Opening Night,’ references classic plays like Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. It opens with an acoustic guitar riff and melody reminiscent of medieval times and falls back into Weezer’s signature sound. The catchy chorus is hard not to love and will probably have you singing about how Shakespeare makes you happy.

‘Angels on Vacation’

This next song might possibly be our favorite from SZNZ: Spring, but it’s pretty hard to choose because they are all so good. ‘Angels on Vacation’ is about two angels stepping on Earth and experiencing human things for the first time, like eating fries. The song opens with beautiful harmonies before switching up the tempo with fun guitar riffs following the EP’s spring vibe.

‘All This Love’

‘All This Love’ is probably the most whimsical track from the seven-song EP. The acoustic guitar, drums, hidden piano melodies, and vocal harmonies throughout make this track embody the feeling of the spring season. In addition, the song is about having saved up a lot of love and wanting to let it all out, which could be seen as a reference to frontman River Cuomo creating an abundance of songs throughout his career.

With the SZNZ EP series, Weezer is also taking on a seasonal residency on late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Tonight! to perform songs from each EP when released. In addition, the quartet will be touring in Europe this summer, continuing their 2021 Hella Mega Tour with Green Day and Fall Out Boy.
