If you haven’t heard of PELA, you’re in for a treat! Here at The Honey POP, this indie-pop duo has quickly become one of our favorites. PELA is comprised of singer-songwriter Hannah Coombes and producer-musician Olly Shelton.
PELA is making waves with their latest single, ‘Heavy,’ which will be featured on their highly anticipated debut EP, Little Ceremonies, slated for June 16. To celebrate the release of their debut EP, the British indie-pop duo is holding a launch performance in the UK.
Their new single ‘Heavy’ reflects on darkness and dissatisfaction while simultaneously looking towards uplifting and hopeful motifs. The lyrics are relatable to anyone who has gone through moments of discontent in their lives. In addition to relatable lyrics, the chorus is catchy and easy to sing along to, with lyrics like, “Oh I get so tired/ Oh I get so low/ Oh I get so weary/ Oh it gets heavy, oh.”
PELA Take A New Approach To The Indie-Pop Genre
Musically, ‘Heavy’ feels like a warm hug from a close friend. The indie-pop track takes from synth-pop beats combined with jazz horns to bring a whole new life compared to the indie-pop tracks we hear on the radio. In addition, the soulful backup vocals will make you feel like you are at a church service. Speaking of PELA also released a performance video filmed at St. Mary’s Church located in their hometown of Brighton in the UK.
