Three years following the release of her debut album, Heard It in a Past Life, indie-pop singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers is back with new music. Rogers captivated the world with her music back in 2019, and here at The Honey POP, we are so excited for her latest era as a musician!
After providing sneak peeks of her new era, Rogers announced that she will be releasing her second album, Surrender, on July 29. In celebration of her forthcoming album, the indie-pop songstress gave fans a taste of what is to come in this new era by releasing ‘That’s Where I Am.’ 2022 is looking to be a big year for Rogers as she is gearing up to play Coachella. We’re hoping to hear a tour announcement in the future (fingers crossed).
‘That’s Where I Am’ is the perfect way for Rogers to start this new era. The first single from her second album has a mix of rock and pop elements that will transition amazingly for live shows. The lyrics encapsulate a new sense of being, filled with joy and happiness. In addition, Rogers continues to demonstrate her incredible songwriting abilities with lyrics like, “It all works out in the end/Wherever you go that’s where I am/ Even boulders turn into sand/ Wherever you go that’s where I am.”
Maggie Shares Her Inspiration Behind The New Music
Rogers explains her inspiration behind ‘That’s Where I Am’ and her upcoming album in a newsletter sent to fans. The indie-pop artist explains that she began making new music right around the 2020 US election because “the world felt dark and unsure,” and she needed to make something that sounded hopeful.
“I watched 10 Things I Hate About You on the plane over and thought it could be fun to make something that sounded like it could run in the end credits of a rom-com. Those songs always seemed so sure of themselves. So joyful. Everything tied up with a bow. A happy ending, that’s what I was craving. Needed it more than anything.”

In addition, the music video for ‘That’s Where I Am’ is filled with romcom-esque vibes, with Rogers trying on different outfits in a montage. The video continues with the indie-pop singer walking around New York City and ending with a performance shot of Rogers in a see-through gown, like the true rock star she is. And, the video even has a cameo from the great David Byrne.
