Ever since their debut, ITZY has taken the world by storm and each member has proven they’re one-of-a-kind performers – and that includes their center, lead dancer, and main rapper: Shin Ryujin. Her stage presence is impressive, to say the least. Her skills and talent are top-tier. And everything about her is just so incredibly iconic. Here are some of our favorite Ryujin moments!
Cover Of NCT U’s ‘Boss’
Back in 2020, for a special stage, Ryujin covered NCT U‘s ‘Boss‘ along with GFriend‘s SinB, OH MY GIRL‘s YooA, and Kwon Eunbi. She absolutely stole the show with this rendition of the song and her skills shined through this incredible performance. The way she covered those rap verses will never leave our heads. Proof that she can do it all!
In 2021, ITZY made their Japanese debut and a couple of months later, they released their first-ever Japanese original song: ‘VOLTAGE.’ And what a song. The vocals are on point, the rap is mind-blowing, and everything about it is top tier. But what makes it even better is Ryujin – her verses are so incredible, they’re bold and so badass. They have everything we love about her voice and Ryujin as a whole. Queen behavior.
We’re taking a ride down memory lane on this one – but it’s so worth mentioning.
Many people knew Ryujin after she debuted in ITZY, but she did a lot before – such as you know, acting in BTS‘ LOVE YOURSELF Highlight Reel. But mainly, Ryujin was not only a contestant in MIXNINE, but she came in first every single time, in every single round, and ended up also at number 1. And rightfully so. She ate every single performance and song they did. Ryujin was born to be on stage and to perform – her audition only says it all. And adding to the fact that she showed her incredible talents and killed it, she made everyone fall in love with her.
Artist of the Month
After Yeji and Chaeryeong had their Artist of the Month videos, all we could do was sit and wait and hope for Ryujin to get her moment as well. And it happened!
In November, Ryujin was Studio Choom’s Artist of the Month and she danced so incredibly well to Billie Eilish‘s ‘Therefore I Am.’ It wasn’t only about the dance moves that were amazingly executed (as always) but also the styling – her look with that black suit and that purple lipstick will never leave our heads – and, of course, her facial expressions. It takes a lot to express the feeling behind such a bold and sassy song as ‘Therefore I Am,’ and she absolutely killed it. Her stage presence was off the roof and she proved once again how incredible of a performer she is.
At the 2021 Mnet’s Asian Music Awards, ITZY absolutely owned the stage with a mind-blowing, show-stopping performance. Everyone can agree that they had one of the best performances of the whole night. Taking on a concept inspired by My Name (2021), the girls turned into spies and delivered an incredible performance, to say the least. What makes this performance even better was Ryujin’s incredible acting – especially in the interlude between ‘LOCO‘ and ‘In The Morning.’ She was literally fighting guys on the stage and taking over the whole thing. She was insane for that.
But at the end of the day, if there’s only one iconic moment we should all remember and put down in the history books: it’s this one. That dance move. You know which one we’re talking about. Everyone does.
Ryujin single handly changed the course of history when ITZY’s ‘WANNABE‘ was released in early 2020. That shoulder move was everything, and it had everyone in a chokehold. The way she executed every part of the choreography was just incredible and that shoulder move at the beginning of the song was a cultural reset. If we had to summarize how iconic Ryujin is, that first verse is all we would need.
