We’re all about these wonderful women today, and there’s good reason! The industry has never been more full of fabulous female songwriters, and these talented artists are no exception. We’ve been adding all these songs to multiple playlists, and they’re bringing good energy and good vibes. In 2022, we’re healing, loving, and not letting anyone steal our sunshine.
‘Love Overgrown’ is the gorgeous new single by Raveena. Extra girl boss points for directing the music video herself. The song is part of her recently released record, Asha’s Awakening. The concept album tells the story of a space princess from ancient Punjab and their journey through life and love. Pulling from many different cross-genre influences, such as Alice Coltrane and Missy Elliott, the album has a really unique and eclectic sound. You can also hear the influences of western sounds intertwined with inspiration from Punjabi culture. It’s a really beautiful body of work.
Raveena’s voice, particularly in ‘Love Overgrown,’ made us feel like we were floating! Her vocals are so dreamy and soothing. Even though the song is about falling in and out of love, there is something comforting about the melody and its softness. We can’t wait to see Raveena on tour, especially after her incredible performance at last weekend’s Coachella festival. Pick up a ticket here before it’s too late!
Okay, so GAYLE kind of took over the world this past year with her single ‘abcdefu’ and debut ep a study of the human experience volume one. If you’ve somehow managed to miss this sensation, now would be a good time to hop onto the GAYLE hype train because it’s not slowing down anytime soon. In fact, GAYLE has just put out a visualizer for her new track ‘sleeping with my friends.’
The song and video are moody and vulnerable but still pack a punch in the way only GAYLE knows how to do. This is one of our fave releases from her so far, and we’re obsessed. (side note: we’re also obsessed with those flowery dungarees, her style is so cute.) We hope GAYLE performs this live because it will go off in a major way, and we love seeing female artists bring the house down! She’ll be on the road starting later this month, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed. You can pick up tickets here!
Bella Rios is a vocal powerhouse with beautiful control. Her latest single, ‘Calm Down,’ is full of confidence, sass, and defiance. There are so many iconic lines from it, but we think “Never ever tell me to calm down” sums up what we wish we could say sometimes! Why are we so often told to calm down and tone ourselves down for other people? We’ve had enough, and it sounds like Bella has too! If you’re in the mood to feel like a baddie, add this to your playlists, and you won’t regret it.
Keep an eye on Bella. We have a feeling with her style and vocal ability, in a couple of years, she’s going to be everywhere. Keep doing you, Bella.
If you don’t know Kayleigh yet, you might just recognize her from playing on tour with the likes of Frank Iero (MCR), Bayside, and Kevin Devine. However, lockdown gave Kayleigh time to focus on her own stuff and write her upcoming album Learning To Be Happy. Kayleigh has just put out the third single from the album, ‘You’re Good.’ The song is all about processing a past relationship and coming to terms with the fact that your ex-partner has grown enough to treat other people better than they treated you. Ouch.
Kayleigh has got us right in our feels, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Although she’s talking about a potentially deep and painful topic, the song has an upbeat tone and positive outlook, and we love its optimism. It even reminded us a little of debut era Taylor Swift, so swifties get her on your radar. We adore Kayleigh and can’t wait to hear the rest of the album! Learning To Be Happy is out May 6th!
Which playlists will you be adding your new fave female artists to? Let us know in the comments or hit us up on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram (Even if your playlist names are super unhinged – those are our faves!) We love hearing from you all!
