New Music Weekly: Pepper Lewis, Maddie Glass, And More!

It’s our favorite time of the week once again. New Music Weekly is here! Join us and jam out to ten of our favorite new tracks this Friday has blessed our ears with!

[apple_music_ad artist=”Serena Sun” song=”Breadcrumbs”]
Serena Sun – ‘Breadcrumbs’

Serena Sun is really out here making perfect pop music, and we’re going to need you all to hop on board immediately. ‘Breadcrumbs’ is all about needing more from someone putting in the bare minimum. Essentially not just accepting ‘Breadcrumbs’ in a relationship, which is a lesson we can all run with.

‘Breadcrumbs’ is about navigating the waters during the early stages of a relationship and reclaiming your power when the person you’re dating doesn’t give their 100%. It’s supposed to remind the listener that their time and energy are valuable, and they shouldn’t settle for the bare minimum in a relationship.

Olivia Penalva – ‘Judge Away’

Olivia Penalva is quickly breaking onto the pop scene, and after listening to ‘Judge Away,’ we see why! She has made this incredible acoustic pop track with a message that so many people need to hear. Social media can be toxic, there’s no question about it, and having the mindset Olivia represents in this track is crucial to surviving this online world.

The idea for ‘Judge Away’ came to me late one night while I was scrolling through social media, realizing how much judgment there is in the world. I think all of us have experienced some sort of pain from judgment and outside opinion whether, it be from friends, loved ones and even strangers. It’s not always easy to accept and love ourselves with all that noise, and I realized how much more liberating it would feel to drown it all out and root for ourselves instead. It doesn’t mean it’s not always going to affect us, but we have to choose to feel good when we can. I wrote this song with my friend Troy Samson, and the words just fell into place as we talked about all the things we’ve been through and the things we wish we had said.

Lindsey Lomis – ‘die with my friends’

The pop girlies are out in numbers on this week’s New Music Weekly, and we aren’t complaining! Allow us to introduce you to an artist we know you are going to be as obsessed with as we are, Lindsey Lomis! ‘die with my friends’ is Lindsey’s first release since 2020, and what a comeback!

Lindsey Lomis has the JoJo stamp of approval, so you know she’s the real deal.

I wrote this song when all of my friends were leaving for college. It’s this weird phase of life where the people that once lived five minutes away from me were now spread out across the country, beginning their new lives. I didn’t know if we’d stay close or grow apart. ‘die with my friends’ is about the naïve idea that we could all live our separate lives and finally come back together for the end of them. It’s not about wanting to die but wanting to spend your life with the people you’re closest to.

Between Friends – ‘orange juice’

Between Friends never let us down, it’s one of the truths we found in this world. The duo is creating pop-indie-summer-infused music that we simply can’t get enough of. You’re going to hear us blasting ‘orange juice’ on any late-night adventures we get into over this summer/spring.

Nearly Spent – Nearly Spent

If there’s a rock-infused cover of ‘Accidentally In Love’ on a record, we’re automatically going to be all in! Nearly Spent has beyond delivered with their self-titled EP. We’ve had the ‘Accidentally In Love’ and ‘Runaway’ stuck in our heads ever since our first listen-through.

Callen – Ghost Reflections

Ghost Reflections is such an insanely beautiful, honest album that we feel so lucky to have on New Music Weekly. We didn’t know what to expect going in, as this is our first look into Callen as an artist, and we couldn’t have been more impressed with the results. You’re going to be hearing a lot more of the name Callen, that’s a promise. Our favorite tracks have to be ‘The Real Me’ and ‘Love Myself Alone.’

Maddie Glass – ‘Kiss Your Best Friend’

Who doesn’t love a good post-breakup song? We know we do! ‘Kiss Your Best Friend’ is giving off major Avril Lavigne, early 2000s pop-punk vibes, and you couldn’t get a higher compliment from us. That was a musical peak. We will be blasting this track at the highest volume screaming these lyrics relishing in this post-breakup glow.

I was looking for some humor in the swirling of emotions that come with heartbreak, I wanted to poke fun at the situation by writing a song with some “what-if” scenarios to even the score and lighten the mood. While I would never actually revenge-kiss an ex’s best friend, although the opportunity tends to arise, the idea is amusing. The lyrics are relatable, and it’s a really upbeat breakup song to listen to loud and sing out as you take your power back and realize they weren’t worth the tears after all.

Tessa Kaye – ‘Sunshine & Rainbows’

It’s okay not to be okay, and Tessa Kaye is here to assure us of that! Life doesn’t have to be this false picture of ‘Sunshine & Rainbows,’ we can be upset, we can cry and scream, and now we have this track as a permanent reminder! Tessa Kaye has such a beautiful voice and turned this track about not needing false positivity into such a fun, upbeat track. It’s everything!

So many times, I’ve found myself in situations where I was trying to mask my authenticity to not come off as “negative.” Life isn’t always sunshine & rainbows… and I’d say that’s kinda the whole point. Balance baby. Contrast. Bad times just make the good ones feel that much better.

Daimy Lotus – ‘Over You’

Having a third party in your relationship (an ex who still thinks there is a chance) is never a fun situation. We haven’t seen this explored in a track, but of course, leave it to Daimy Lotus to put a situation, so many of us have dealt with, into words. Plus, the track is so much fun and makes us want to dance around our rooms, singing into our hairbrushes. We need that energy on New Music Weekly.
