Music Declares Emergency is accelerating its fight against climate change and global injustices by spreading its wings to the United States in a unified effort after successful active chapters in France, Germany, Switzerland, Chile, and Canada.
We live in a world where climate change is becoming evident, and we are experiencing its worst consequences as it poses the greatest challenge to all living species on Earth. It is high time that we all come up with a united front and make it our mission to make a difference and rescue our planet.
Music Declares Emergency has turned up the volume to roar its voice towards adopting sustainable practices in the music industry. It is an initiative that brings together diverse voices using the power of music and illustrates global integration by taking severe measures to fight against precarious climatic and ecological dilemmas. Music Declares Emergency is an independent climate collective devoted to unifying the music industry from every corner of the world to combat the global climate and ecological crisis and create a better future for ourselves and future generations.
MDE recently unveiled its newest chapter in the United States with support from notable and rising music professionals such as Billie Eilish. It encompasses prominent record labels, massive music forces and musicians, independent organizations within the live music community, big names in classical, pop, rock, jazz, and folk genres, artist managers, individual music professionals, and other music enthusiasts passionate about coping with the climate crisis.
By igniting the power of music, Music Declares Emergency strives to save humanity and living species and attain the need for cultural and ecological changes by adopting viable, practical alternatives, exploring sustainable solutions, and appealing to the government for immediate action to prevent this catastrophe and save the planet.
As once quoted by American singer, songwriter, musician, actor, and record producer Josh Groban, “If there is one thing that is constant in this world, it is the power of music.” We couldn’t agree more with the statement, as the power of music is indeterminable and undervalued. It is much deeper than just dancing to the pulsating rhythms or being a source of amusement. Music is a universal language for communicating through expressions, lyrics, and melodies. It is cathartic for some people, as it acts as an outlet for them to express their emotions, heal hearts and unspoken feelings; unites people together for a powerful plea; promotes indispensable cultural change, and can stir you to the depths of emotions.
Rich Goldman, President of Riptide Music Group, agrees with us as they share their thoughts. According to them:
I believe in the power of music to unite people around this most urgent cause. Popular recording artists and the music community that supports them have the power to artfully rally their fans and followers around this issue, which is truly the most important threat to our way of life on Earth. Through their celebrity, voices, performances, and events, artists have the unique ability to impact the hearts and minds of music fans. For those of us in the music industry who believe this threat is a real, clear, and present danger, it’s time we raise our voices and make some real noise.
Thus, the music industry is stepping up with this movement to push the truth about the climatic and economic catastrophes that will only worsen over the next 10 to 20 years with no remedial actions. MDE aims to acknowledge music industry practices that have detrimental effects on the environment. It continues to urge taking substantial steps to protect all living species, prevent the degradation of biodiversity, and alleviate greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2030.
It makes us genuinely pleased and optimistic that all is not gone and that we have faith in the future. The music industry has realized the depth of this critical situation and is stepping up to take charge and reduce its carbon footprint. With the “No Music on a Dead Planet” campaign, MDE intends to mobilize the influence and leadership of music artists to join the community in coping with the climate crisis and other earth-threatening predicaments and proactively use their platforms to share this message with their massive global audience for better reach. For instance, Billie Eilish illustrates the face of Gen-Z climate activists, and she has been a widely vocal supporter of the campaigns to save the Earth.
Music Declares Emergency has received a massive response since 2019 from over 6,300 music industry professionals and organizations across different continents. The UK-based signatories include major music labels and studios, including Universal Music UK, Sony Music UK, Warner Music UK, Radiohead, Opera North, Warner Chappell Music UK, Coda Agency, Crosstown Concerts, and Abbey Road Studios, amongst many others.
The Declarers comprise many notable artists and rising musicians, including Annie Lennox, Arcade Fire, Billie Eilish, Bon Iver, Brian Eno, Chicano Batman, Major Lazer, Bootsy Collins, 1975, Fantastic Negrito, Jesse Dayton, Juanes, Maisie Peters, Massive Attack, Machel Montano, Milky Chance, Nikolai Fraiture (The Strokes), Odesza, Pretenders, Tegan and Sara, Tom Morello, KT Tunstall, Brian Eno, Tycho, and Tom Odell, all around the world.
If you’re ever going to get involved in climate action, the time is now. In a few years’ time, it will be too late. Environmental ‘tipping points’ are very close on the horizon, that’s when the ice melts and no longer reflects the sun’s heat, and the earth suddenly starts heating up more quickly, or the permafrost thaws and releases loads of methane into the atmosphere. Once we reach those points, there’s no going back.

Music Declares Emergency recently unveiled a heartfelt song titled ‘Resolution Song,’ an empowering and compelling effort and a poignant plea calling for government action to protect the planet. With over thousands of people and communities in over 100 countries from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and representations took part in this project and astonished us with their unparalleled dedication.
