Most of you know James Brittain-McVey (né: McVey) from the band The Vamps. however, before they rose to stardom, James had a bit of a solo career back in 2009 and released a pretty incredible solo EP!

His sound has evolved over the years, but we always get a little nostalgic and find ourselves streaming the Who I Am EP when we need some throwback tunes, and upon our recent playthrough, we thought it’d be fun to take a look at the Ep and give a song by song review for you, The Vamily! So, whenever you’re ready, let’s go!
‘For Sun And Rain’
We adore this song so so much! It’s probably one of our favorites on the entire EP! It’s got such melodic rhythms, and we can’t help but sway along to the beat while singing along to the poetic and exceptionally beautiful lyrics. We love the emotion he radiates as he sings, and it’s just overall a feel-good track.
‘Who I Am’
The nostalgic feel of this track does something to our souls that make us relive some of our best years musically. Sonically, it’s a masterpiece, and lyrically, we are hypnotized by every word he sings. Anytime we need a song with a bit of an angsty edge to help us cope, we always have this song top of the list!
‘Move My Way’
If you didn’t listen to James before The Vamps, that’s okay! We can guarantee you’ve heard this song! One of the most criminally underrated songs, it was written by James for his solo EP, but it made it onto the band’s first album, Meet The Vamps. Hearing it this way puts it in a whole new light for us and showcases how talented James is as a songwriter! It’s just such an incredible song!
This song has a way of getting us deeply in our feels every time we hear it. It has some of the most adorable/sad/drama-romance (all the best bits) lyrics we’ve ever heard, and we are fully living for them. We can picture an entire film beginning to end just based solely on this song. So if anyone needs movie ideas, you know where to start.
‘Brightest Of Colours’
What a perfect way to end this EP, with one of the most heart-wrenching songs we’ve ever heard. James is so good at tapping into every emotion, including ones you didn’t even know you had, and it’s got us dreaming about finding someone who can write us a song as heartfelt as this one!
There you have it, Vamily! A song-by-song review of James’ solo EP, Who I Am. It’s never too late to stream this bad boy, so get to it by clicking here! We’ll be over here hoping maybe he’ll rerecord these songs to fuel our insatiable need for more James Brittain-McVey!
