FKA Twigs Brings CAPRISONGS Tracks To Life With CAPRIVIDS Series

FKA Twigs kicked off her 2022 with a bang by releasing her mixtape CAPRISONGS in January. Like any Twigs work, it blew our minds in the best way possible. Now, the singer-songwriter is keeping the momentum going by releasing a series of videos, CAPRIVIDS, to accompany her mind-blowing mixtape. Being the visual artist that she is, we know that FKA Twigs is bound to give us transcending and beautiful stories through these visuals.

“A short and punchy music video using a segment of a song. Mini music videos made with limited time and resource.”

FKA Twigs explaining CAPRIVIDS

In honor of releasing these stunning visuals, let’s break down five of the eight videos in the CAPRIVIDS series.

‘ride the dragon’

The visuals for the opener of CAPRISONGS are Twigs in her dance element. The multi-hyphenated artist sets up camp with her dancers on the steps of the town hall in her hometown. In the video, Twigs and her dance crew try to convince the townhall worker that they were filming a TikTok. But little did she know she was on the set of an FKA Twigs video.

‘thank you song’

The most recent CAPRIVID release embodies the intimate lyrics of ‘thank you song.’ The video starts with Twigs hopping on a city bus, reflecting on her demons—who join her on the bus ride. The intimate yet straightforward video does ‘thank you song’ justice as Twigs thanks the person and aspect of herself that has got her through these challenging years and embracing her inner demons. According to the singer, those demons can become your angel if you allow them to.

‘papi bones’ feat. Shygirl

For this Afro-beat-inspired track, Twigs wanted to show that side of herself in the visuals. Growing up in the UK, she explains that Black pop culture on her side of the Atlantic is much different than in the United States. The video starts with Twigs on a motorcycle in the middle of an apartment before dancing to the Afro-beats embedded in her track. The singer embraces the culture she grew up around and uses it as inspiration for this visual.

‘jealousy’ feat. Rema

Twigs took inspiration from the Soul II Soul video ‘Jazzie’s Groove’ and put her twist on the idea for this following visual. Twigs shines in multiple outfits, including a bright green number that embodies the style from the 1980s, paying homage to ‘Jazzie’s Groove,’ as it was released in 1989. In addition, Twigs continues to show her talents in the video with a dance routine that she encourages fans to learn and have fun with it. If you need us, just know we’re preoccupied with learning this fun routine.

‘meta angel’

The last visual on our list is a very personal one to FKA Twigs. ‘meta angel’ is all about rebirth, where one version of Twigs shoots an arrow to the heart of the other version of the singer. The visual tells the story of allowing one version of ourselves to take over the other and using the skills needed to create one’s destiny. Twigs’ symbolic use of visuals for ‘meta angel’ demonstrates how her art is introspective and personal—one of the many reasons why we love her at THP.
