Chip ‘n Dale is back and they have a whole new look in the Disney+ animated and live-action reboot film, Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers! It’s kind of a big deal. Such a big deal, in fact, that on May 18 the cast and filmmakers of the movie were in Hollywood to celebrate its premiere. Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers tells the story of chipmunks, you guessed it, Chip and Dale! It’s thirty years on from their heyday in the hit show, and it’s the same in the movie (talk about meta), with the time catching up on them in present-day Los Angeles.
The film is worth the watch, especially since it has references to other Disney characters and even cartoons from different media (like Ugly Sonic, remember him?) Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers just came out May 20, so you’re pretty much good to go watch it on Disney+ here! But if you happen to like the mixture of live-action with animation, then we have the perfect movies to watch right after Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Who hasn’t seen Roger Rabbit? It’s practically a classic. The animation is beautiful and mixes quite well with the live-action, making it a timeless movie. If you don’t know what Who Framed Roger Rabbit is about, we’re glad to give you a little summary with no spoilers of course. The famous cartoon actor and husband to the beautiful Jessica Rabbit, Roger Rabbit is framed for the murder of Toontown’s owner. The evil Judge Doom wants Roger locked up, leaving him to seek help in clearing his name from the brittle detective Eddie Valiant. However, the more Eddie looks into the murder the more secrets he finds that someone wants to cover up.
Interested? Well, if you still have Disney+ in another tab after viewing Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, you’re in luck! Who Framed Roger Rabbit is also available for streaming on Disney+!
Space Jam and Space Jam: A New Legacy
Now, we know you have to know what Space Jam is for sure! It’s a 90s classic and it features basketball legend Michael Jordan. You know the story: aliens try to kidnap the Looney Tunes, Bugs Bunny wagers their lives to a basketball game, the aliens get powers from NBA players, Michael Jordan helps train the Looney Tunes, and then hijinks ensue. You get the picture.
It’s another movie that has that smooth animation, which looks so good that it honestly doesn’t look dated at all, and again, it manages to line up perfectly with the live-action. It’s no wonder so many people like to reference the movie, especially with TikTok loving the whole “Hi, I’m Lola Bunny” audio edit bit. (We love it too btw!)
Space Jam: A New Legacy came out last year. The movie kind of follows a somewhat similar setup to the previous movie with the whole ultimate basketball game element except it’s with LeBron James. However, like the first, the animation blending with live-action is still pretty cool with an added bonus of having CGI like Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers! You can watch both movies over on HBO Max.
Looney Tunes: Back In Action
Here’s another movie featuring the iconic Looney Tune characters, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. Please tell us we aren’t the only ones who remember this one. In our hearts, this one is a classic y2k film. It’s in our top 100, okay and we’re going to tell you why.
Not only is it like the other hybrid animated and live-action films that we mentioned, but this movie is really funny. Like, no seriously. It’s really funny. Daffy Duck is in such a mood. Plus, the way he and Bugs play off each other, we’re surprised there aren’t a lot of edits of these two from this movie.
Looney Tunes: Back In Action follows Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny, who pair up and try to rescue a popular actor after he gets kidnapped. Meanwhile, the duo is being chased by their studio boss and the actor’s son. So, it’s a whole game of cat and mouse, along with some laughs in typical Looney Tunes fashion. You can watch the movie right over in HBO Max here!
Some there you have it! More movies to marvel at after you watch the animation and live-action hybrid that is Chip ‘n Dale. It looks like you’ve got a weekend ahead of you.
