Hello, honeybees, how you doin’? As always, welcome back to Binge-Worthy Buzz, our weekly series where we bring you some of the hottest new shows and movies to watch in the near future. We have a lot to talk about this week, so let’s dive in!
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series
By now, we’re sure everyone here has noticed we love HSMTMTS and its cast to the moon and back. And if you know that, you can probably guess how excited we were to hear about the new seasons coming soon to Disney+. But in case you’ve been hiding from the world and have no idea what the series is about, we’ll give you a quick rundown. Back in the distant year 2006, we were introduced to East High in the iconic Disney Channel movie High School Musical. In 2019, Disney+ brought us back to East High, but this time, to the real school where the movies were filmed.
The mockumentary-style show introduces a new set of characters with their own struggles. The first two seasons are currently available to binge-watch, with season three coming on July 29. And if you thought the good news were over, you thought wrong! Disney+ recently announced they’ve ordered a fourth season of HSMTMTS. If you love a high school story filled with music and nostalgia, we suggest you check out this show as soon as possible. And BTW, if the trailer for season three doesn’t get you hyped about the show, we don’t know what will.
We could write a whole article about the Chicago franchise and how much we love all three shows, but we’d be lying if we said we don’t have a soft spot for Chicago Fire. It was the first of the trio, after all. And it is great! No wonder it’s been going for ten seasons now. And we’re writing this article just in time for the season 10 finale on NBC on May 25 at 9 pm (EST).
Over the past decade, we met and fell in love with these firefighters. We watched them go through a number of life-threatening situations, hard personal struggles, and everything in between. We don’t like giving huge spoilers, but what we will say is that this season finale brings about a wedding many of us have been waiting for. Chicago Fire is definitely the show for those who love a bit of drama and a lot of found family stories.
Yes, we’re talking about Marvel again, is anyone surprised? But can you blame us? They’re coming up with so much new content we can barely keep up. And the latest addition to their stellar set of heroes is Ms. Marvel, a.k.a. Kamala Khan. Ms. Marvel debuts on Disney+ on Wednesday, June 8. A week before that, however, A Fan’s Guide to Ms. Marvel, a short documentary on the origins of the show and the character, drops on Disney+.
Kamala is a Muslim American girl from Jersey City. We already love her just from the description Disney gave us: “avid gamer,” “voracious fan-fiction scribe,” and “superhero megafan.” Us too, girl! As much as she loves all superheroes, she does seem to have a softer spot for Captain Marvel—and who doesn’t, honestly? Her life seems as boring as you’d expect, that is, until she gets superpowers like all the heroes she’s always loved. Now comes another question: how does one live with said superpowers?
Still on the topic of new shows on Disney+ that we can’t wait to watch, next on our list is Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Star Wars galaxy never fails to amaze us, be it with The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, or now with Obi-Wan Kenobi. Continuing the trend of filling in the gaps of what happened between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, this show brings our favorite Jedi master back to the spotlight, 10 years after his greatest failure.
As we’ve learned, Obi-Wan won’t be returning to our screens alone, as Anakin Skywalker – or as he’s known at this point of the story, Darth Vader – will also return. The first episode of the show premieres this Friday, May 27 on Disney+ and we can’t wait to watch it. Having Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen back together for a Star Wars shows feels like a dream we don’t want to wake up from.
Beyond Infinity: Buzz And The Journey To Lightyear
If you love a good documentary and Pixar movies, this one is for you. We are already waiting for Lightyear to premiere in theaters on June 17, but now we have another thing to look forward to – Beyond Infinity: Buzz and the Journey to Lightyear. The documentary seems to follow in the same lines as Embrace the Panda, which showed us the making of Turning Red.
We were all hyped when we heard Pixar was working on Lightyear, but we were also surprised the movie wouldn’t be about the Buzz Lightyear we know and love from Toy Story, instead focusing on the man who (in the Pixar universe) inspired the toy. We can’t wait for June 10, when Beyond Infinity comes to Disney+ and we get to see all the new ideas Pixar folks came up with, as well as the challenges they faced in order to bring this human Buzz to life.
If you haven’t heard of Hulu’s Love, Victor, you’re seriously missing out on something great. The show is a spin-off of the 2018 movie Love, Simon, but with a completely different, but also similar, protagonist. Like Simon, Victor is also on his own journey of self-discovery and coming to terms with his sexuality. But unlike Simon, he doesn’t feel confident enough to come out as gay just yet.
Seasons one and two are already available on Hulu, so you can get all caught up on Victor’s story before season three rolls around on June 15. We won’t give you any spoilers because Love, Victor needs to be watched spoiler-free, but we will say we can’t wait to see what goes on inside Victor’s head in season three with high school coming close to an end.
What’s that? You want more movies and TV content? We gotchu!
