Paris Jackson is back with a brand new sound on her new single ‘lighthouse’ and we are absolutely captivated! ‘lighthouse’ came out on May 20 via Republic Records with an accompanying music video directed by Johann Rashid. This single is the perfect rock track for summer and we can’t get enough. Paris is electrifying and enchanting and every bit the performer she was destined to be.
She may be music royalty, but that’s deserved and then some because of her magnetic talent.
Coming off of her recent EP, the lost ep, and 2020’s wilted album, Paris’ sound has dipped into new territory with ‘lighthouse.’ Her previous work is chill and dreamy, exploring emotional landscapes that are relatable and make for the perfect music for a rainy, cloudy day. Now, with ‘lighthouse,’ Paris pivots into vintage 90’s grunge reminiscent of Nirvana and the subsequent wave of grunge bands that followed their massive success.
‘lighthouse’ leans into anger, opening with a growly guitar and melting into Paris’ buttery vocals and lyrics that depict heartbreak.
The Music Video
The original features Kurt Cobain and company in a classic grungy garage as they play amidst flashes of Cobain’s baby daughter Frances Bean. It feels like it’s been recorded on a vintage camcorder and shoved into a VHS player, and that’s the type of old-school energy Paris captures in her own iteration.
The ‘lighthouse’ video sees Paris and her band shredding garage-style like Kurt and she totally embodies that classic Cobain energy.
‘lighthouse’ is the perfect mix of grunge nostalgia and summer jam energy. If you haven’t already added it to your playlist, take this as your official sign! This is just what we need in today’s modern musical landscape.
We can’t wait to see where Paris goes from here with her music. Stream ‘lighthouse’ here!
