3 Artists Who Are Weaving Multimedia Into Their Music

Music transcends many boundaries as an art form. It tells us stories, and every listener takes away something different when they hear a song. We at THP are always in awe of the incredible music we come across daily. But that’s already a given!

So why are we saying all this today? Because so many of our fave artists have evolved in their craft. They take their music beyond just audio and express it with other forms of media. Songs become an experience for all senses, and we want to highlight three new multimedia music releases!

Deza

First up, we’re showing love to an artist on the rise who’s sharing her beautiful music alongside an equally beautiful video project. Deza puts her creativity front and center with City Sickness, a project composed of 12 songs and six videos that narrates her experience with love and life in LA as a young artist. Her latest track, ‘Paris With Somebody Else,’ is a sentimental ballad that imagines her long-distance partner taking a trip to Paris with someone else. These last couple of years, especially, we find ourselves feeling comforted by all the amazing music we’ve gotten. Deza’s video productions make our jaws drop while also leaving us in our feels. And we look forward to her conclusion of City Sickness!

YOASOBI

J-Pop super duo YOASOBI is best known for transforming novels and short stories into some of the catchiest songs we’ve ever heard. ikura’s vocals are a breath of fresh air. And Ayase’s music production never fails to get us hyped! Their new single, ‘好きだ [Sukida],’ is based on the novel Hikari no tane (Seed of Light) by Eto Mori, a Naoki Award-winning author. Mori’s novel follows the story of a high schooler confessing her love for her childhood best friend seriously. And we’re obsessed with this multimedia collab combining music with literature! YOASOBI‘s ‘Sukida’ makes us reminiscent of our high school years once upon a time, when our biggest worry was whether or not our crush liked us back.

Chance The Rapper

Chance the Rapper has been expanding his artistry so much in 2022. His latest release, ‘A Bar About A Bar,’ brings a painting by Nikko Washington to life. He talks about the strange ways that people can cross paths with one another. His lyrics and rap flow are on another level! And did we mention he directed the accompanying music video too? Chance shows off his musical and multimedia talent, as he should! The Art Institute of Chicago displayed Nikko’s painting A Bar Abut A Bar this past week, and we’re jealous of everyone who got to see it in person.
