If you’re anything like us at THP, your brain randomly yells “gaslight! Joyride! Landslide! F*ck life! Twist the knife!” when it gets a little too quiet. At least it does if you’ve had Maggie Lindemann and Siiickbrain’s high-octane collab ‘GASLIGHT!’ in your rotation since it came out in 2021. We know we aren’t the only ones!
But if you haven’t heard the incredible union that is Maggie and Caroline, or if you’re obsessed and just want more, you’re in luck! The girls are back with the stunning ‘break me!’ and we’re sorry, ‘GASLIGHT!,’ but we might just have a new all-time favorite song.
Content Warning: flashing lights and fake blood.
‘break me!’ has a much different vibe than ‘GASLIGHT!’ but provides the same confidence and attitude we loved about Maggie and Siiickbrain’s older collabs. It leans into more of an industrial alt-pop feel instead of angsty rock… at least until the chorus, which brings back the fiery edge! The track talks about how vices can both help and hurt us, and whether it’s love, the party life, or something else that fans your spark, ‘break me!’ will resonate with you on a galactic level.
‘break me!’ featuring siiickbrain is about being intoxicated. It’s all the feelings it gives you, that rush of fear and adrenaline, but also the calmness and peace. The video is meant to convey the juxtaposition of the two – one moment you’re euphoric and the next you feel like you’re broken, suffocating and your heart is decaying.
What better duo to really emulate that intensity than Maggie and Siiickbrain? We’ll have ‘break me!,’ ‘GASLIGHT!,’ and Siiickbrain’s ‘Dopamine’ featuring Maggie on repeat until we can hear Maggie’s SUCKERPUNCH album later this year.
