Welcome Home Tributes, The New Hunger Games Era Is Here

We can’t believe it’s been nearly 7 years since Mockingjay Part 2 left us absolutely devastated, but we couldn’t be happier to say after all this time we are finally getting to dive back into Panem for the new installment of The Hunger Games cinematic universe. We were so excited when Suzanne Collins dropped the prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, in 2020, and are ecstatic it’s also getting the big-screen treatment (as it deserves!)

Since announcing the film, they have been giving us so much to look forward to. We lost our minds when they announced the casting of two major characters earlier in the week and have only just been able to process it. And we have thoughts, so many. Here are all the details you need to know about the upcoming film and who is involved.

Rachel Zegler

If you’re a regular theatre-goer, chances are you know of Rachel Zegler. From her days as a YouTube darling to making her first feature film debut and winning a Golden Globe, it’s been a big few years for the Westside Story starlet. Fierce, determined, and compassionate, it is no wonder she’s landed the role of Lucy Gray Baird. But who is Lucy, you may ask? Let us fill you in.

For those of you who are fans of The Hunger Games franchise but haven’t yet been able to get your hands on The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Lucy Gray Baird is another tribute from District 12. We see Lucy chosen as a victor for the 10th annual Hunger Games and everything that unfolds as a result. Like Katniss, she wins the heart of the Capitol however, not through volunteering for a sibling, but through her voice. We love a good singer and a bit of rebellion here at THP HQ, so we know Rachel is going to steal the show. And yes, we’ll be absolutely obsessed.

Tom Blyth

We know it’s boo, hiss, tomatoes for President Snow, we agree. But we have nothing but love for the actor who is going to portray the younger version of Coriolanus Snow. Welcome Tom Blyth to the Hunger Games family! Like Rachel Zegler, Tom is a prominent up-and-coming actor who seems perfectly cast. He’s got the wild streak Snow needs – his first film role was literally ‘Feral Child,’ love that for him – but also an air of intelligence and grace.

So what can we expect from Snow? Well, it’s not the old, evil man we love to hate but a much younger Snow who is trying to find his place and restore honor to his family name. We get to explore a side of the character we haven’t seen before. There’s a bit of poison involved, of course. It’s Snow. There may also be some romance too but we won’t give the whole game away. You’ll just have to wait with the rest of us to see the film when it drops in November 2023!
