Star Wars fans, 2022 is 100% our year! There’s been so much new content from our favorite galaxy far far away it’s hard to believe there’s, even more, to come soon. Just in the last two years, we were made to fall in love with Grogu and Mando in The Mandalorian, we saw more of the great bounty hunter, Boba Fett, in The Book of Boba Fett and now we’re once again seeing Ewan McGregor step into the role of our dear Jedi master in Obi-Wan Kenobi.
It’s nice to see these shows are being so well received by everyone, and also knowing they’re filling us in about what happens in between the movies we all know and love. And it looks like someone’s aware of all the love we have for these shows because there’s even more of them coming! Thinking of that, we decided we would come up with a list of what comes next in the Star Wars universe, just so we’re all caught up.
While this one is technically already a reality, we haven’t reached the end of the season yet. There may still be quite a lot we haven’t seen from this old Jedi Master. So far, the show has already subverted some of our expectations. Such as, we expected to see way more of 10-year-old Luke, who lives on Tatooine, and not that much of Leia, who was in Alderaan. And then the first few episodes happened. We can’t wait to see how the events in the show will tie into the story we already know from A New Hope.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch
The second season of The Bad Batch is oh so close now. This fall, we’ll finally see what happens after the events at the end of season one. The first 16 episodes showed us the Bad Batch during the fall of the Republic and the rise of the Empire. Now, in season two, all we know is that we’ll see the clones deal with the aftermath of that shift in power in the galaxy.
The third season of The Mandalorian is right around the corner too! Last time we saw Mando and Grogu wasn’t even in their own show, it was in The Book of Boba Fett, which served as a way to set up what comes next for our favorite duo. Season three of The Mandalorian comes to Disney+ in February 2023 as far as we know, and all we can say is that the next few months can’t pass soon enough.
After stealing our hearts in The Clone Wars and a surprise appearance in The Mandalorian, Ahsoka Tano will also have her own Disney+ show. Starring Rosario Dawnson as the title character, the show is set to release in 2023. We don’t know a whole lot about what the show will be about, but from Ahsoka’s previous appearances, we assume she might continue the hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn she started in Star Wars: Rebels. And who knows who might show up on her show. We got Hayden Christensen back as Darth Vader in Obi-Wan Kenobi, so anything is possible. Also, one thing we recently learned from a Star Wars Celebration Panel is that Natasha Liu Bordizzo was announced as part of the cast as Sabine Wren. Yes, that same Sabine we know and love.
Another character we only saw a few moments of was Cassian Andor from Rogue One. One movie was all it took for us to love this character and want more of him. And more of him we shall receive. August 31 marks the return of Diego Luna to the Star Wars galaxy as Cassian Andor. But this time, we’ll see him before the events of the movie. Five years before, to be exact, during the early days of the rebellion.
And those are only the ones that are just around the corner! There are many other projects to come that we don’t know that much about yet. Such as Skeleton Crew, which will tell the story of how the Empire fell through the eyes of four children; there’s Lando, which, you guessed it, will focus on Lando Calrissian; there’s Rangers of the New Republic, which will follow a group of X-Wing pilots during the same timeframe of The Mandalorian and possibly connect itself to other Disney+ Star Wars shows. And much more to come!
