Despite being on a world tour together, everybody’s favorite siblings, Billie Eilish and Finneas just headlined the iconic Glastonbury Festival! However, before taking to the main stage, the dynamic duo somehow still managed to find time to fit in an appearance on Apple Music 1’s Matt Wilkinson Show. On the show, they discussed a range of topics, such as their new unreleased song ‘TV’ and Billie’s love of Blur’s frontman, Damon Albarn.
So, before we rewatch them absolutely kill it on stage at Glastonbury, we’re here to break down all of our favorite things that we learned about Billie and Finneas in the interview!
Billie Rediscovered ‘TV’ Because Of A Flight Delay!
At her recent Manchester gig, Billie debuted an unreleased track titled ‘TV’ and we at THP are absolutely obsessed with it. Billie’s drive behind playing this song live was her desire to release songs spontaenously, stating:
“I just want to be able to go back to my roots and be the songwriter that I am and that Finneas is and sing the song that we just wrote and put it out whenever it’s done.”
Honestly, Billie if you’re reading this, feel free to bless us with more spontaenous music anytime soon, we at THP certainly won’t complain!
Finneas Loves The UK
Finneas revealed in the interview that he and Billie have a great “reverence” for the UK, citing the pair’s work on the James Bond soundtrack and what was their upcoming appearance at Glastonbury as two examples of their love and admiration for the UK and British culture more generally. He also mentioned his love of British music, particularly Paul McCartney who would also be performing at Glastonbury. British stans, you’ve officially won today.
Billie Is A Die-Hard Damon Albarn Fan
Billie has always cited Damon Albarn as one of her biggest influences and in this interview, she admitted that she often finds herself looking at his fan pages. That’s right, Billie is just like the rest of us and can’t help but look at her faves fanpages. When discussing her love of the Gorillaz and Blur, Billie stated:
“Gorillaz changed my life. And Blur is like, so good. I wasn’t as kind of aware of them as I would’ve liked to be until more recently in my life.”
Billie actually got a chance to perform with Damon Albarn at her headline Coachella show this year, where the pair performed ‘Getting Older.’ Discussing age and growth, ‘Getting Older’ is a track from her third album, Happier Than Ever, and made for the perfect collaboration between the two.
To Billie and Finneas, Glastonbury is a “once in a lifetime opportunity”
Growing up, Finneas would watch clips from Glastonbury Festival and admire the artists that took to its stages, his personal favorite performance being Jay-Z’s unexpected yet iconic cover of ‘Wonderwall’ by Oasis in 2008. Now, that’s a cross-over we didn’t know we needed.
As for Billie, she discussed how it was a “once in a lifetime opportunity” to headline at Glastonbury. While Billie is also the youngest act to ever headline at the festival, her presence is also notable due to the fact that there are not many female headline acts at festivals like this. When discussing this fact, Billie stated that she was “really honored and really excited” to do the festival and we at THP hope that her impeccable set will encourage festivals to showcase more female talent on their mainstages.
