After seeing great success with her single ‘Boyfriend,’ Dove Cameron is back with her newest release, ‘Breakfast.’
‘Breakfast’ is a sultry and melodic anthem that discusses the ideas of love and power dynamics, creating an atmosphere that is both cinematic and utterly enchanting. With lyrics like “I eat boys like you for breakfast,” Dove is able to perfectly capture the darker and more mature vibe that we love to hear from her. ‘Breakfast’ is definitely going to be a standout release for this summer and we at THP hope that it brings Dove all of the recognition she deserves!
As well as highlighting Dove’s ability to cultivate a darker and more mature vibe, ‘Breakfast’ also emphasizes the idea of female empowerment, discussing themes such as the strength of femininity and embracing one’s inner power. When discussing the song, Dove stated:
“I’ve been writing songs that allow me to take up space, to stop diminishing my power and to explore the fullness of who I am in a new and sexy way. Breakfast is just the next step in me finding my voice through my music and getting a little energetically weird.”
While Dove first came into the spotlight with her role on Disney’s Liv and Maddie, her single ‘Boyfriend’ really skyrocketed her career and brought her to the attention of a mainstream audience. Garnering an impressive 294 million streams worldwide and being dubbed a queer anthem, ‘Boyfriend’ is a viral hit and, like ‘Breakfast,’ is the perfect noir-pop bop.
As well as being an accomplished singer-songwriter, Dove also still maintains her acting carer and is set to be involved in multiple upcoming film projects, such as MGK’s Good Mourning with a U and B.J.
