We all know One Republic frontman Ryan Tedder has an incredible way with words, but did you know he also writes for other artists as well? Ryan has contributed to so many hits songs outside of the band, so we’ve put together a list of some of our favorites! Celebrating songwriters is so important, and Ryan Tedder really is one of the best!
‘Why Try’ – Ariana Grande
In our opinion, this is one of the most underrated songs from Ariana‘s second album, My Everything. We can’t think of any other song that perfectly captures the anguish of falling in love and wondering if it’s worth fighting for when the relationship is so turbulent. The songwriting on this track really hits you right in the chest and makes you feel so deeply. Ariana‘s vocals are also incredible, and this track truly shows off her range and beautiful tone. We hope one day everyone will acknowledge how incredible and ahead it’s time this song was!
‘Easier’ – 5 Seconds of Summer
Not only did Ryan write on ‘Easier,’ but he also lent his pen to ‘Teeth’ from 5 Seconds of Summer‘s fourth studio album, CALM. We’d love to see more collaborations between Ryan and the band, as they really seem to gel well together. Both ‘Easier’ and ‘Teeth’ lean into the more industrial pop sound that is synonymous with the sound of CALM. Hopefully, we’ll hear more on 5SOS5!
‘I Know Places’ – Taylor Swift
We stan 1989 in this house, and one of the true gems is ‘I Know Places.’ Ryan Tedder and Taylor Swift are two people who have pretty much perfected their craft. They both know how to write iconic pop songs but also have the ability to make them meaningful and poignant. We would absolutely love to see these two work together more often. TS10 maybe…?
‘Right Now’ – One Direction
One Direction will always hold a special place in our hearts, and it’s nice to reminisce sometimes. ‘Right Now’ contributed to one of the greatest fan-to-band live interactions of all time in the San Siro stadium. The moment gets us emotional each time, and the song was chosen for a reason. With the help of Louis, Liam, and Harry, Ryan Tedder has created a beautiful, relatable song that will live on in the hearts of Directioners forever. It truly is something special.
‘Most Girls’ – Hailee Steinfeld
We absolutely love this song at THP HQ. Ryan and Hailee have written an empowering song for girls everywhere. It’s important to celebrate the differences that make us individual and unique, and this is exactly what ‘Most Girls’ does. Not only is it inspiring (and most definitely in our self-love playlist), but it is an absolute banger. You can catch us singing this one into our hairbrush mics on the regular!
‘Love Somebody’ – Maroon 5
What a nostalgic bop. We were absolutely obsessed with Maroon 5‘s Overexposed album in 2012, tbh we still are. Especially this single. ‘Love Somebody’ was a Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 hit, and we are still rocking it today. The song is simply infectious, a perfect example of pop-rock. Ryan Tedder also is a credited writer on the album track ‘Lucky Strike,’ which is energetic, punchy, and another Maroon 5 classic.
‘Ghost’ – Ella Henderson
When this song comes on the radio, it seems to put you in such a feel-good mood. The chorus is a classic, and Ella Henderson‘s vocals are next level. Belting out these lyrics with the windows down on a sunny day is just so cathartic. Can we also take a moment to appreciate the fact that this was Ella‘s first single? What an immense talent, right from the start. If you like this song, you should check out Ella‘s recent album, Everything I Didn’t Say!
