There’s a new indie-rock group to be on the lookout for! Enter MONOWHALES, a Toronto-based trio of artists that we can’t get enough of. Their debut EP ‘Control Freak’ made them an icon of the Canadian radio and indie scene, and left us wanting more of their refreshing rock sound.

To tease their new album coming out this fall, MONOWHALES have dropped a single, ‘StuckintheMiddle,’ accompanied by an unforgettable music video. Give it a watch first, then check out this list of our five favorite moments from this genius video that we’re obsessed with!

Sally Shaar’s Makeup Look

Lead singer Sally Shaar’s makeup look was the first thing that caught our eye in this video. It’s reminiscent of fashion icons like Twiggy and Elizabeth Taylor. This blast from the past makes sense given the video’s ’60s housewife motifs that are holding Sally back: literally and figuratively.

Great Expectations

As the band kicks into the raging first chorus, Sally loses all control. She’s chained down to the table, symbolizing what this song is all about: being held down by expectations. Whether these expectations are internal or forced onto her, she’s sick of them. Her energy is contagious – we’re mad for her!

Green Eggs And Ham??

We weren’t expecting MONOWHALES to come through with a Dr. Seuss reference, but there’s a lot to unpack here! (It’s also the video’s first appearance of guitarist Zach Zanardo and drummer Jordan Circosta, too!) The guys get a hearty breakfast of green eggs and ham, while Sally is literally stuck at the table with cereal. Wouldn’t you prefer something a little more filling for your first meal of the day?

Zach And Jordan

We can’t get enough of how chill Zach and Jordan are in the background while Sally loses it at the table. They’re so nonchalant as they cook, ignoring the chaos in front of them: a total mood for how we’re handling life lately.

Guitar solo

We love a good guitar solo, and Zach’s breakdown on this track is no exception! For a minute, he seems to go as crazy as Sally before he joins Jordan in being calm again. He’s definitely a talented guitarist, and we can’t wait to see what he does on future tracks!

These are the top five moments from MONOWHALES’ new music video that stuck in our heads! Be sure to check out more of their music, and let us know if any other shots stood out to you by commenting or tweeting us @thehoneypop!
