After teasing a collab last week, it’s finally been confirmed that BTS, benny blanco, and Snoop Dogg will be teaming up for what may possibly be the collab of the year. Set to release on August 5th, ‘Bad Decisions’ will be the first single from benny blanco’s upcoming album and will feature both Snoop Dogg and BTS’ vocal line: Jin, V, Jimin, and Jungkook. And we thought Avengers: Endgame was the crossover of the century! When discussing the collab, benny blanco has stated:
“I can’t believe I have a song coming out with Jin, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook of BTS and Snoop Dogg. It doesn’t even feel real!”
The song will undoubtedly be another huge hit for benny blanco, maybe even further adding to his collection of multi-platinum records and awards. In the past, benny blanco has seen a huge amount of commercial success through his work with artists like Ed Sheeran, Halsey, Gracie Abrams, and Selena Gomez. Snoop Dogg has also worked with numerous different artists, notably Katy Perry and The Pussycat Dolls. However, like benny and Snoop, BTS are no strangers to collaborations, having worked with artists such as SIA, Coldplay, and Niki Minaj as well as a plethora of other big names in recent years. So, to keep you entertained until August 5th, we’ve rounded up five of our favorite BTS collaborations to bless your ears with.
‘Old Town Road (Seoul Town Road Remix)’ – Lil Nas X ft. RM
While we may all be familiar with Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ iconic ‘Old Town Road,’ did you know that he also released a remix of the song in collaboration with RM? Well, know you do!
RM taking on a more country-inspired sound definitely isn’t something we ever expected to see but he, of course, pulled it off flawlessly. RM uses his distinct and unique rapping style to bring something new to the song, meshing perfectly with the equally as distinct rap style of Lil Nas X. While the other members of BTS aren’t featured on the song, the pair actually performed the song with the rest of the members at the 2020 GRAMMYs. The performance is seriously epic, with the BTS members and Lil Nas X looking effortlessly cool with their dance moves and impeccable styling. Honestly, if BTS is ever on the lookout for an eighth member, we seriously think Lil Nas X should consider filling in the role.
‘Waste It On Me’ – Steve Aoki ft. BTS
Steve Aoki and BTS have truly been a superior duo for a few years now, having also worked on the songs ‘Truth Untold’ and ‘Mic Drop’ ft. Desiigner together. ‘Waste It On Me’ greatly contrasts their other collaborations, utilizing Steve Aoki’s classic flawless production style in combination with BTS’ impeccable rap and vocal skills to create a more lighthearted and fun EDM track. We also have to mention the music video as we absolutely loved it. Steve Aoki purposefully used this video to showcase a variety of Asian-American actors, such as Ross Butler, Ken Jeong, and his sister, Devon Aoki. The video depicts a kitchen worker attempting to woo his celebrity crush, and ultimately facing off against her boyfriend in a karaoke battle to do so. It’s super fun and definitely adds a new and exciting element when listening to the song.
‘Dream Glow’ – BTS ft. Charli XCX
‘Dream Glow’ was released in 2019 on the soundtrack for BTS’ mobile game, BTS World. The song features Jimin, Jungkook, Jin, and Charli XCX, combining to create an atmospheric and chilled-out vibe that makes the song incredibly enjoyable to listen to. While it may have been from a game soundtrack, ‘Dream Glow’ is so melodically beautiful and pleasing to listen to that it could even work really well on a K-drama soundtrack. We particularly love Jimin’s part in the second verse; something about it is just so addictive and it simply hits different. This, of course, isn’t Charli’s only venture into the world of K-pop collaborations, with her releasing a remix of her song ‘Beg For You (feat. Rina Sawayama)’ with A.G. Cook and Vernon, a member of SEVENTEEN’s rap line and one of BTS’ labelmates. We can’t wait to see who else from the K-pop world she works with next!
‘Who’ – Lauv ft. BTS
‘Who’ is a standout b-side from Lauv’s 2020 album ~how i’m feeling~ and features Jungkook and Jimin. Lauv is well-known for the vulnerability and honesty that he never shies away from in his songs and ‘Who’ certainly attests to that. The song lyrics discuss the idea of a dying relationship, layered over the top of a more emotional-sounding and melancholic production style. Like Steve Aoki, this is not the only time that Lauv and BTS have worked together, with the singer featuring on a remix of their 2019 song ‘Make it Right.’ In both songs, Lauv and BTS’ vocals serve to perfectly complement one another, making it feel like the pair were just meant to work together at some point in their careers. Lauv first came in contact with the group at their Wembley Stadium show, where he got to both watch the concert and go backstage to talk to the members. If you’re reading this, Lauv, do know that we are incredibly jealous and think you should make it up to us by collaborating with BTS again. Please and thank you!
‘Boy With Luv’ – BTS ft. Halsey
We at THP absolutely love Halsey, so we at THP were incredibly hyped when we found out that they were collaborating with BTS. Released in 2019, ‘Boy With Luv’ was the lead single from the group’s MAP OF THE SOUL: PERSONA album and is an absolute staple in their discography. Halsey’s vocals can be heard on the choruses, however, they also feature in the very aesthetically pleasing pastel-toned music video. The song itself is equally as bright as its MV and the absolute antithesis of ‘ON’ or ‘Black Swan,’ the singles released soon after. Using an upbeat and funky production to create a fun and happy vibe, the song feels like utter euphoria (no pun intended) and it will certainly be one to keep on loop.
