The wait is over bookworms! Beasts of Ruin, the sequel to the 2021 debut Beasts of Prey, is almost here! From the world building to the mythology, it’s got something everyone can look forward to. Plus, look at this stunning redesigned cover!

Summary: Koffi has saved her city and the boy she loves, but at a terrible price. Now a servant to the cunning god of death, she must use her newfound power to further his continental conquest, or risk the safety of her home and loved ones. As she reluctantly learns to survive amidst unexpected friends and foes, she will also have to choose between the life—and love—she once had, or the one she could have, if she truly embraces her dangerous gifts.
Cast out from the only home he’s ever known, Ekon is forced to strike new and unconventional alliances to find and rescue Koffi before it’s too late. But as he gets closer to the realm of death each day, so too does he draw nearer to a terrible truth—one that could cost everything.
Koffi and Ekon—separated by land, sea, and gods—will have to risk everything to reunite again. But the longer they’re kept apart, the more each of their loyalties are tested. Soon, both may have to reckon with changing hearts—and maybe, changing destinies.
Content Warnings: violence, death, grief, insects.
Our Review
After the cliffhanger from book one, we were super excited to see what Beasts of Ruin had in store for Koffi and Ekon. Like Beasts of Prey, there was the expansive world-building and beautiful settings. We could vividly picture each scene and the exciting magical creatures that our characters encountered. Speaking of the characters, they all had complex challenges they needed to face throughout the book. This changed them in different ways which were interesting to read about. However, at times it slowed the pacing of the story.
One of our favorite aspects about Beasts of Ruin was the mythology and storytelling elements! The myths and stories about each god and goddess were intriguing and kept us hooked. These mythical figures all had an interconnected history but were each unique in their own way. We also enjoyed the perspectives from the past which gave us a glimpse into the world’s history. And after another thrilling ending, we can’t wait to see what the next book in this series has in store!

Beasts of Ruin by Ayana Gray is out July 26th and is available for pre-order here!
