Get Ready For Black Star Line, The Music Festival Of The Future

Are you a festival goer who loves to support culture and learn about history? Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensa are launching the festival for you. Get ready to head to Accra Ghana in January 2023 and experience the beauty of West Africa.

Not enough major artists make the journey to the continent to tour or perform and that’s something that Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensa are trying to change. Here’s what the pair had to say about their latest venture:

When Vic and I started our careers and started touring, we did shows all over the US. Eventually we started touring in Europe, we did shows in Asia, South America, Central America, but we never had a chance to play our music for the people who support us the most. When we came here and touched down and felt the love that we received and the fans that we got to connect with, the understanding for the need for the connection became apparent to us. We need a music festival bringing major artists to Ghana. This is what we’re working to create.

The Origins Of The Festival Name

The historic Black Star Square where the festival will take place is a monument to the political freedom that Ghanaians won in 1957 after battling to overthrow the occupation. It was the first Sub-Saharan African country to free itself from colonialism under the leadership of its first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and lead the way for many other nations on the continent to follow in their footsteps.

The festival title’s origins were also inspired by civil rights leader Marcus Garvey’s iconic Black Star Line. Founded in 1919, and operated by Black people, the line went on to link the Americas, the Caribbean, and Africa, to global shipping and tourism. It was truly a trailblazer that created abundant opportunities and deserves praise and recognition.

We love this idea and hope to see many mainstream international artists performing next January. We’ll be keeping an eye out for more information! We’re looking forward to the Black Star Line Festival!
