mxmtoon’s Colors With ‘kaleidoscope’ And rising (the deluxe)

After the successful release of rising back in May, Maia (aka mxmtoon) is ready to show us more of her musical and personal evolution with a deluxe version of the album! It will be out on September 16th, and to properly celebrate it, we at THP dived into one of the songs included in this deluxe version and her newest single, ‘kaleidoscope.’

‘kaleidoscope’

“Count all of my colors, but you’ll never know…”

This song is all about breaking down those societal barriers that don’t allow you to be who you are. It’s about getting to know yourself. About growing to accept your true colors, leaving with more desire to grow and learn. The lyrics and the instrumental make us feel like nothing can stop us. We love how Maia plays with her higher tones during the chorus to fully achieve the song’s message. Through ‘kaleidoscope,’ mxmtoon truly teaches us how you can be fearless and soft at the same time.

While talking about ‘kaleidoscope,’ Maia explains: “Being a woman is something I feel immensely proud of, but it’s also something that the world at large has relentlessly held against me and so many others. Women are a diverse and beautiful group of people who embody perseverance and bravery, and I wanted to honor that with ‘kaleidoscope.'”

How does ‘kaleidoscope’ fit into rising?

‘kaleidoscope’ truly fits the theme of rising to keep her evolving sense of who she is through her song lyrics. This song feels like the next chapter in mxmtoon’s story, which allows her to look for answers to fill the blanks on those personal questions that she asked on previous tracks on this record. The album gives a preamble to the purpose of this single: allowing oneself to embrace who you are, unapologetically. We feel that this lyrical exploration is so well done, and we’re so glad to be a part of her journey! In addition to ‘kaleidoscope,’ rising (the deluxe) will also include a new song called ‘plastic pony,’ and we can’t wait to enjoy it!
