At The Honey POP, we consider ourselves to be Dua Lipa stans first and human beings second. Since the release of her debut single ‘New Love’ in 2015, Dua’s career has skyrocketed and she is currently one of the most popular female pop stars around, best known for singles like ‘New Rules’ and features such as ‘One Kiss’ with Calvin Harris. So, since we believe that every single playlist deserves to be blessed with Dua’s presence, we’re here today to round up our five favorite Dua Lipa songs!
‘We’re Good’ is the thirteenth track from Future Nostalgia (The Moonlight Edition), the deluxe edition of Dua’s sophomore album. Invoking a tropical atmosphere, ‘We’re Good’ is perhaps the best song to showcase her versatility and range as an artist. This single is both upbeat and highly danceable, using more laid-back instrumentation that differs greatly from the more disco-infused and funky sound found on the rest of the album. With ‘We’re Good,’ Dua is able to combine her sultry vocals with a more relaxed and chill vibe, creating the perfect Summertime banger that we simply cannot take off loop.
‘Good in Bed’
‘Good in Bed’ is a fun and lighthearted song about a tumultuous relationship, described by Dua in conversation with Apple Music, as a “cautionary tale” for people in the kinds of relationships it describes. This song is the tenth track from Future Nostalgia and is perhaps one of the most memorable b-sides from the album, blending together a more serious topic with a playful and witty tone that is simply addictive. Dua featured this song on the setlist for her recent Future Nostalgia Tour and it was truly a highlight of the show. Whilst wearing a sparkly bodysuit, Dua performed this song alongside her tea of dancers and consistently left crowds stunned. We have no choice but to stan!
Can you tell that we absolutely adore the Future Nostalgia era yet?
Using Dua’s signature disco-inspired and dark pop sound, ‘Love Again’ was released as the final single from Future Nostalgia single in early 2021. The song digs into the re-kindling of a past relationship and showcases themes like empowerment and sexuality that are both central throughout Dua’s discography. Alongside the single, Dua also released a Western-inspired music video, showing her bull-riding and performing a dance number while dressed in cowboy-inspired attire. With the release of songs like ‘This Hell’ by Rina Sawayama and ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X, the cowboy-inspired aesthetic seems to be a popular trend within the pop industry and we absolutely cannot get enough of it.
‘Kiss and Makeup’ – Dua Lipa and BLACKPINK
‘Kiss and Makeup’ is one of the most iconic collaborations we have ever seen Dua do and it truly lives in our heads rent-free. Released on the extended edition of her self-titled debut album, ‘Kiss and Makeup’ is a dance and electropop track that took the world by storm in 2017. The single charted within the top 40 in 19 different countries and went on to get a platinum certification in Australia. Given the power of BLACKPINK and Dua Lipa stans, this is, of course, unsurprising. The style of ‘Kiss and Makeup’ perfectly complimented both Dua and BLACKPINK, blending together the vocals of Dua with the vocals and rapping of Jisoo, Rose, Jennie, and Lisa in a way that felt natural and destined. If BLACKPINK is ever in need of a fifth member, then we think Dua should be seriously considered.
‘Sweetest Pie’ – Megan Thee Stallion and Dua Lipa
As we all know, Dua is the queen of collaborations, having worked with artists like Sean Paul, Miley Cyrus, and the previously mentioned BLACKPINK. ‘Sweetest Pie’ fits perfectly into the long line of Dua’s impressive collaborations, released earlier this year as the first single from Megan Thee Stallion’s recent Traumazine album. This is a collab that we really weren’t expecting but are so so grateful for. This song was an instant hit with the THP team, we even made it one of our predictions for the song of the Summer! The song is both sultry and sweet, combining Dua’s flawless vocals with Megan’s distinctive rap style to channel an 80s synth vibe that is utterly delectable.
