The YUNGBLUD Album Has Us Going ‘Mad!’

Wait… can it be? YUNGBLUD’s new album is finally here! We would totally sit and mourn the Weird! era, but we’re a bit busy dancing our hearts out to YUNGBLUD right now.

Usually, an artist will make their debut album self-titled, but YUNGBLUD waited until his third album to do so – maybe the third time’s the charm! YUNGBLUD is the ultimate summary of who Dom is as an artist and a person. This 12-track, indie-rock album draws inspiration from The Cure, Radiohead, and Dom’s personal experiences, and it’s like a breath of fresh air. We knew YUNGBLUD was going to be great the moment it was announced. It seems some music legends knew this, too!

‘The Funeral’

‘The Funeral’ is the opening track on YUNGBLUD, and this death-defying song sets the scene for the rest of the album so well. It urges you to own your insecurities and lets you know it’s alright to feel down. Ozzy Osbourne is one of the musical legends who backed Dom on this album, and he was featured in ‘The Funeral’ music video!

‘Tissues’

Alongside the YUNGBLUD album release, Dom blessed us with a new music video for ‘Tissues!’ This absolute banger samples The Cure’s ‘Close To Me,’ and that brings us to another legendary cosign for the project. The Cure’s frontman, Robert Smith, approved the sample himself!

All through the process of making YUNGBLUD, Dom was always incorporating his family, the Black Hearts Club. Not many artists have close ties to their fanbase, but it’s something Dom has always been passionate about. He often stays that he isn’t YUNGBLUD – he and the BHC combined are YUNGBLUD! We can really feel the love with everything he does.

There are many themes on this album, but we think the biggest one is love for and acceptance of yourself and others. Dom wrote YUNGBLUD over the past 2 years, and though the stories behind each song may not be the most joyful, the overall vibe is of pure euphoria. The entire album is a safe space for the outsiders who never quite fit in. One way or another, we’re all ‘The Boy In The Black Dress’ and maybe, that’s why the BHC understands each other with such ease.
