Aren’t you feeling a bit nostalgic these days? Sometimes when it seems like there is too much going on in the world, it’s nice just to take a break and reminisce about the good ol’ days. Ah, yes, back when Disney Channel Original Movies were the thing (talk about a major nostalgic overload), you only woke up early on a Saturday for the cartoons, and Hilary Duff’s ‘So Yesterday’ was one of the certified bops on Radio Disney next to any new song The Jonas Brothers released.
Hilary Duff, of course, was everywhere in the early 2000s from Disney’s hit show Lizzie McGuire to rom-coms and guest appearances in shows like Gossip Girl. And she’s still acting today with Hulu’s How I Met Your Father being her most recent lead role. But if you’re feeling that nostalgic itch, here are some early 2000s movies starring the darling Hilary Duff you’ve gotta watch (again).
Hey, honey! Just so you know, there are some links in this article which we may earn money from if you make a purchase using them. It’s at no extra cost to you and helps us as an independent publication massively. Thanks for supporting The Honey POP!
The Lizzie Mcguire Movie
You knew we were going to mention this movie. C’mon, it’s a pretty iconic one considering Hilary Duff’s performance of ‘What Dreams Are Made Of’ has been one of the most covered and memed-about songs of our time. Okay, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but the movie is popular due to the song at the end, which is well deserved considering Hilary Duff sings her butt off in the final act.
Plus, what’s the better way to start your nostalgic trip off right than re-watching Hilary Duff’s most memorable performances as Lizzie McGuire? And if you’re feeling extra nostalgic, we suggest binge-watching the main show to see all of Hilary Duff as Lizzie before jumping into the movie. You can re-watch The Lizzie McGuire Movie (and Lizzie McGuire: The Series) over on Disney+!
For some reason, Cadet Kelly was huge on Disney Channel back then. Are we the only ones that remember this movie playing almost every month on the channel? Anyway, unlike Lizzie McGuire, we get to see Hilary Duff play a whole new character, Kelly Collins, a carefree girl whose limits get pushed to the test when she gets enrolled in a strict military school. As you can imagine – which of course you can because you have probably already seen this movie a million times – that leads to a whole lotta trouble and that sweet, sweet character development of our dear Kelly.
Also getting to re-watch Hilary Duff perform alongside Christy Carlson Romano, aka the voice actress of Kim Possible, in that special military/almost dance routine will be yet another iconic nostalgic movie moment that will live rent-free in your heads for weeks to come after. Catch Cadet Kelly once again over on Disney+!
A Cinderella Story
The story of modern-day Cinderella is in itself its own movie genre because there is a lot, and we mean a lot of movies with this premise. But A Cinderella Story starring Hilary Duff will always have a special place in our hearts. It did give us the now popular TikTok sounds like “You’re not very pretty, and you’re not very bright” and “Hehehe, laugh out loud” after all.
All-and-all though, this is a pretty cute Hilary Duff movie and a wonderful trip down memory lane. Remember when flip phones were the thing? And chat rooms back then were like the early 2000s version of Discord and Reddit. Ah, yes, memories.
So what are you waiting for? Scratch that nostalgic itch by watching Hilary Duff in A Cinderella Story over on Netflix.
Casper Meets Wendy
But, if you really want to see something super cute, get a load of baby Hilary Duff in Casper Meets Wendy. Aww, talk about adorable! You probably remember this movie coming on TV around October, which also makes this movie the perfect nostalgic viewing for Halloween.
In this film, Hilary Duff stars as Wendy the Good Witch alongside Jeremy Foley as Casper as they try to take down an evil warlock, but you already knew that. For that extra nostalgic factor, try giving this movie a watch during the spooky season, and if you want to go all out on the nostalgic train, the red jumpsuit Hilary Duff wears as one of Wendy’s signature looks would be a great costume to DIY for Halloween! You can get Casper Meets Wendy over on Amazon.
