While he was born in Dublin in 1991, Dermot Kennedy has been blessing ears around the world since the release of his debut single in 2015. Best known for songs like ‘Outnumbered’ and his feature on Meduza’s ‘Paradise,’ Dermot Kennedy is back with his newest single ‘Innocence and Sadness’ and we simply can’t get enough of it!
‘Innocence and Sadness’ is a melodic piano ballad that blends together introspection and nostalgia to create an atmosphere that is both comforting and melancholic, perfectly showcasing Dermot’s powerful vocals and excellent lyrical capabilities. Dermot couldn’t have picked a better time to release this amazing single, as the song’s overall vibe and feeling make it the perfect song for any of your Autumn playlists! When discussing the song, Dermot shared:
It’s impossible for me to express how much this song means to me. I wrote this song on the piano in my parents’ house. ‘Innocence and sadness in the same night’ means I cling to my childlike sense of wonder while learning how to face all the challenges of life. All in search of steady rhythm joy. Reliable and true joy.
‘Innocence and Sadness’ comes as the fifth release from Sonder, following on from his singles ‘Something to Someone,’ ‘Dreamer,’ ‘Better Days,‘ and ‘Kiss Me.’ Each of these songs have been living in our heads rent-free and we truly can’t wait to see what the rest of the album has in store. Sonder is Dermot’s highly-anticipated sophomore album and is set to drop on November 4th, with a total of eleven songs that we know we’re going to absolutely adore.
Along with ‘Innocence and Sadness,’ Dermot also released an accompanying video of him playing the song live at Mission Sound Studios in Brooklyn! Dermot has been releasing live videos like this alongside every single from his Sonder album and we’re obsessed. Known as the Sonder Street Sessions, these videos feature Dermot playing his new singles live in various different cities across the world, busking to a crowd of extremely lucky fans and proving that he is the king of live acoustic performances.
But we’re not just getting a new single – Dermot also recently announced that he will be embarking on a UK tour! He recently finished off an amazing run as a support act on Shawn Mendes’ Wonder Tour and this new set of shows is gonna be his biggest tour to date, so you’re not going to want to miss it! Make sure you snap up your tickets quickly, though, because we seriously can’t promise that the THP team won’t sell out every show very quickly.
