Here’s How You Can Go Sweet Or Scary For Halloween

Spooky Season has officially arrived, and in case you haven’t noticed, this is one of THP’s favorite times of the year! It’s the time of sitting down to watch scary (or not so scary) movies, to drink pumpkin spice everything the whole month… you get the point. And it’s also time to play dress-up and choose your costume for October 31.

But should you go as something sweet? Or maybe something scary? Lucky for you, we’re here to help you figure it out! Here’s a list of sweet and scary costumes for the Spookiest Time of the Year!

Chrissy Cunningham – Stranger Things

Only Grace Van Dien could show up for a single episode of the fourth season of Stranger Things and make such a lasting impact that her character became a fan favorite. Chrissy’s iconic cheerleading outfit has been popping up everywhere, from costume parties to conventions all over the world. For that reason, we believe this is definitely a sweet option for your Halloween costume this year. And if you have a cute metalhead to be your Eddie Munson, that’s even better!

Scarlet Witch – The MCU

Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. The Scarlet Witch, has been everywhere since WandaVision last year, and that became even more apparent after she showed up in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This is a versatile option, seeing as you can choose from her many iconic looks and go as sweet or scary. We’d say a good option for “sweet” would be her outfits from WandaVision; but if you want to scare people, we recommend stealing her looks from MoM, especially the one where (*spoiler alert*) she possesses another version of herself to attack people.

Wednesday Addams – The Addams Family

This one is a classic. The oldest Addams child is our favorite character from the movies (along with her mom, Morticia,) and she deserves to be many people’s Halloween costume. You’d think she’d be considered a “cute” costume, but she’s far from it. Personally, if we saw Wednesday Addams with a smile on her face, we’d start wondering who got hurt. That being said, we still think she’s amazing and we can’t wait to watch the Wednesday show on Netflix in a few weeks!

Pennywise – It

Clowns are a classic of Halloween, but there is no clown more iconic than Pennywise. He managed to scare us just from being on the pages of Stephen King’s novel, and it only got more impressive when the character was put on screen. So if you want to be a scary clown for Halloween, go with the scariest of them all!

Beetlejuice – Beetlejuice

The ghost who first appeared in an 80s movie and later gained a Broadway counterpart is a great option if you want to completely change your appearance this Halloween. Beetlejuice is an iconic character who gives you a reason to put your make-up skills to the test, while also being both funny and scary this Halloween. Just maybe avoid saying the name of your costume inspiration three times in a row.

Obi-Wan Kenobi – Star Wars

You know everybody’s favorite Jedi Master-turned-hermit had to make the list of “sweet” costumes this year. After the premiere of Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+, this old Jedi returned to the spotlight once again and we couldn’t be happier. He deserves all the love. And that includes being an inspiration for Halloween! You can’t deny this dude is the sweetest Jedi in the galaxy.

Medusa – Greek Mythology

Ah, Medusa, the lady with snakes instead of hair. She’s such a bad*ss we couldn’t bear to leave her out of this list. She can turn people into stone just by looking at them! You can’t tell us that’s not amazing and also terrifying. We’d say this is the ideal costume for anyone who wants to go classic with a hint of scary and powerful.

Chucky – Child’s Play

Another choice for the make-up lovers and a classic scary Halloween costume is the Chucky doll from the Child’s Play franchise. All the cuts and stitches make for quite the scary costume that is sure to make everyone jump back when they see you. You could even do half of your face as the “regular” Chucky doll and half as the demonic version.

Cher – Clueless

By far, this is the sweetest costume on this list. Cher Horowitz is an iconic rich girl from Beverly Hills with a heart of gold. We all fell in love with her (and her outfits!) over the course of Clueless and still watch the movie to this day. That should explain why we thought of this as a great option for those of us who want to go sweet this Halloween. As if we’d leave Cher out of this list. And if you want to, you can always get a friend to match with you and go as Dionne!

The Sanderson Sisters – Hocus Pocus

Okay, okay, we know they’re technically meant to be scary, but we all know this trio is hilarious above anything else, which means they’re on our “sweet” list of costumes. Yes, this choice was totally inspired by the fact that a sequel of Hocus Pocus finally became a reality after nearly three decades. So grab your besties and put a spell on everyone this Halloween!
