Lewis Capaldi Is Traveling From The Pits Of Hell To Heaven With Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, And We Want To See These 3 Sequel Songs On It!

We, as fans, are not the only ones who feel the desire to get more from a previous album. Sometimes, it’s the artist themselves! Whether shaking off the dust cloaked on a song to create a sequel à la Eminem and Rihanna’s 2010 hit ‘Love the Way You Lie’ for ‘Love The Way You Lie (Part II),’ or finding poetry in matching their era’s names, see Ed Sheeran’s mathematics. It creates a musical thread between who they were when they first planted the project to who they are now and if there has been any sense of change between them.

Lewis Capaldi is the latest singer to follow this trend, announcing his sophomore album, Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, collaborated with TMS, producer, and songwriter Phil Plested, and a tiny Easter egg for Swifties, producer Max Martin. The album has a rhyming familiarity to his debut, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent. Is there a mood change between the two? Absolutely not. He’s still nursing that broken heart of his, but, interestingly, there’s a venue change from the devil’s island to the pearly gates.

While the album won’t be dropping till May 2023 (seven months for those who did the calendar check), in the meantime, we thought we’d revisit Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent. It’s not a simple listening sesh, either, doing absolutely anything to hear his melancholic croons. Rather we’re taking three songs from the album and imagining what a sequel twist would look like because we clearly can’t get enough of these bangers!

Perhaps it’s straightforward to visualize what we’d most likely presume to come from a ‘Hollywood’ follow-up. First released in 2019, his career has massively blown up since then. His mug is so recognizable, even in the most normal of places, like Mcdonalds’. Would Lewis Capaldi still tousle with choosing his career over love, or know that his path would always lead him to tinsel town? ‘Hollywood’ can also be a motif for homesickness, taking it out of the realm of a relationship, which could potentially create a mature take on the original.

‘One’ is in letter form by penning his lyrics to the ex-partner of his current partner, wondering just how they managed to let their beautiful one go. It’s romantic and gooey yet still holds traces of Lewis’ trademarked aching production to allow us to tap into lonesome memories. If this tune had a sequel, it could be in several forms: the exes’ reply, Lewis’ own thoughtful message to himself now that he knows what it’s like to be in their shoes, or even the girl who thought she had reclaimed the title of the ‘One’ only to now have it be a curse.

We absolutely geek over any artist coming back to a song that made them big, whether that’s sliding it into their setlist or, in this case, creating a hypothetical follow-up. While we’re quick to think of ‘Someone You Loved’ being the tune that sent Lewis Capaldi from being a pub recommendation on yelp to an international household review, ‘Bruises’ also helped to get him here! Often when we leave a relationship, we don’t want that person’s memory to be wiped entirely, so we’d hold on to anything, even the toxic memories, but what happens once we let go and a couple of years have lapsed? Maybe he can sing about it in the sequel.

Opening Kingdom’s Gates

Lewis Capaldi likes to amp the fan girl heart attack and decided to drop two announcements in one! We’ve already obviously talked about the first. As for the second, he’s going on a world tour! Targeting as many countries within six months as possible, England, America, Canada, and even down under, Australia. Starting on January 14, Lewis will begin this venture, and we already know there’ll be so many hilarious shenanigans. Following the strategy of ensuring fans get the first chance at tickets, you can pre-order his album for entry into pre-sale access.
