Rina Sawayama Could Be Your ‘Frankenstein’ With New Single And Music Video

Rina Sawayama released her flawless Hold The Girl album on September 16th, and it has seriously been all that we’ve thought about ever since. With amazing singles like ‘This Hell’ and ‘Phantom,’ Rina has truly crafted the album of our dreams. In the time since, she has completed the UK leg of her Hold The Girl Tour and teased the release of her newest single ‘Frankenstein,’ the ninth song from the thirteen-track album. A month ago, Rina finally decided to bless our eyes and ears with the ‘Frankenstein’ single and has just released an accompanying music video!

The music video draws heavily on the creepier aspects of the song and features Rina at a crowded party, being taken away by an alternate version of herself that emerges out of a mirror in the bathroom. Rina releasing the single just before Halloween was a great choice, as the song and video have the perfect vibes for this time of year.

The song itself discusses the idea of wanting a partner to emotionally heal you from trauma, linking thematically to the wider album that discusses ideas like therapy, dealing with past trauma, and reconnecting with your inner child. When talking about the song, Rina stated:

“I wanted to write about how I’ve relied on my partner to help put me back together, but I realized it’s no one’s job but mine”

‘Frankenstein’ is the sixth single from the Hold The Girl album, following shortly on from the release of her beautiful and intimate fifth single ‘Hurricanes.’ Hold The Girl is Rina’s second full-length album and, if we’re wholly honest, is one of our favorite albums of the year so far. Rina is able to capture such intimate and personal feelings within her lyrics, yet still, her songs are still incredibly fun and exciting. We have no choice but to stan!

Now that Rina has finished up the British leg of the Hold The Girl Tour, Rina will be heading off to Australia, Japan, and North America to wow her international Pixels! You can snatch up some tickets to her tour here and see if she’s coming to a city near you below:
