About Margot Mertz for the Win

Content Warning: Talk of sexual assault, revenge porn, divorce, cheating

Margot Mertz Cleans Your Filth (figuratively, not literally.)

She scours the internet to remove your embarrassing photos on Instagram, delete that semi-offensive tweet, and delete that email you accidentally sent to your boss. But after losing everything while trying to take down a revenge porn site (RB) spreading through her high school, she’s done taking jobs. Now it’s senior year, and Margot is determined to be a better person and friend.

Margot decides to volunteer for the local election campaign and help a new friend win the school election. When a blackmail plot emerges, Margot finds herself cleaning up other people’s messes. Again.

Can she stick to her rules and protect her relationships in the dirty world of politics?

Our Review

Margot Mertz for the Win has all the elements for a perfect sequel.

The Honey POP was counting down the days until we would get to rejoin Margot and finish off her senior year.

Throughout the sequel, it is clear Margot’s intentions have changed from apathetic and quite destructive to open-minded and reflective. So, she sets out to be a better person by chapter one. That is the clear catalyst of the story. As a reader, it was wonderful to see her grow from the last book and throughout this story.

Margot announces to the reader that she is no longer working on her cleanup business. She is focusing on her Stanford application, becoming a better friend, and attempting to fix her relationship with Avery.

(Way to go, Mertz!)

Instead of Margot Mertz “Cleans Your Filth,” she’s decided to intern with Shep Greene’s political campaign. She’s also started helping her classmate win the school’s election against RB’s creator, Peter Bukowski.

We were worried that without the “cleaning” from the first novel, the story would fall flat. However, the story exceeded our expectations! There were a ton of twists and turns including scandals we never saw coming. It includes a new cast of characters from the local election campaign and our old favorites like the Kelseys, Avery, Sammi, and our favorite Pboy. But who knows, maybe even Peter Bukowski can change?

We highly recommend this series, and especially this sequel, if you are fans of Young Adult literature, political themes, and character-driven stories.
