It’s that time again! Fresh Music Friday is back! We have a pretty stacked lineup, so sit down, grab a snack and get ready to find a few new favorite songs!
Joshua Roberts – ‘Stay, Stay, Stay!’
You know him from a band we’ve covered many times here on Fresh Music Friday, Magnolia Park! Joshua Roberts is exploring the solo realm, and we are right here ready to support him! Getting to see an entirely new side of an artist we already love so much is always such a treat and genuinely couldn’t make us happier. ‘Stay, Stay, Stay!’ feels a bit more pop-forward than what we’ve heard with the band, and we are obsessed with this sound.
We could honestly go for an entirely solo project from Joshua Roberts!

Lostboycrow – Indie Pop
We’ve always loved Lostboycrow, but man, Indie Pop feels like a complete departure from anything we’ve heard before from him. Each tracks feels perfectly plucked for this project and genuinely expertly crafted. If you have never listened to Lostboycrow before, Indie Pop is the perfect jumping-off point.
Our favorite track has to be ‘Libra Moon.’

Alec Benjamin – ‘Paper Crown’
Never did we think that in 2022 we would be getting a new version of ‘Paper Crown,’ but as usual, Alec Benjamin has exceeded expectations. ‘Paper Crown’ is a song that as fans since the beginning, we have always been the biggest advocates for, so we love knowing that Alec sees how special it is as well, and is breathing new life into the track.
This release genuinely made our 2022.

Rebecca Black – ‘Look At You’
One thing about Rebecca Black, she rules the music world. We’re sorry, but the evidence is right in front of us, take one listen to ‘Look At You,’ and it will all become clear. With every release, Rebecca Black is proving that she doesn’t exist within a confined genre and that she is going to just keep getting better with her pen. The artistic growth we have watched her go through makes us feel like proud parents.
It’s clear that ‘Look At You’ is an incredibly personal song, that comes from a place of so much love.

Maude Latour – ‘Reality Television’
Maude Latour has exploded onto the pop music scene this year, and ‘Reality Television’ is the perfect way to wrap that up and top it with a bow. Maude is no stranger to Fresh Music Friday so we can say confidently that we feel that with each release, Maude is coming into her own more and more. This is proven with ‘Reality Television,’ a track everyone can see themselves in and relate to.
I wrote ‘Reality Television’ at a time where I was absolutely overwhelmed and anxious. The ending of it repeats the words, “what if I only worried about things as they happened to me in the moment,” a mantra to think only about life as it is around you, instead of the scarier worlds we invent in our minds as we worry about the future and the past. It’s a reminder that you cannot control everything around you, you must let life do its thing too. You can get through anything baby, you really can, and I believe in you

Lukas Graham – ‘7 Years (Later)’
We are going to be honest with you all, we cried listening to ‘7 Years (Later.)’ Sometimes you forget the impact a song has on you until you listen to it in a whole new way. Not only does Lukas Graham have the most incredibly beautiful voice, which is showcased stunningly here, but he also wrote what we consider to be one of the best songs of all time with ‘7 Years.’
We can’t wait to see the world’s reaction to new life being breathed into this iconic track.

Alexandra John – Healing
Fresh Music Friday readers, get ready to meet your new favorite duo, Alexandra John. Alexandra John is a duo made up of twins (brother and sister) and they are here with a debut ep (!!), Healing. Our favorite track has to be the title track, ‘Healing,’ it is such a beautiful demonstration of how their artistry plays off each other.

The Academic – ‘Homesick’
Anytime we get to see a more vulnerable side to artists, we are overjoyed and it tends to be when we connect the deepest. Here on ‘Homesick,’ The Academic is drawing us in with the most relatable of topics, longing for familiarity. All of us struggle with letting go of things that feel safe, and that’s what ‘Homesick’ tackles.
We truly can’t wait for the album, Sitting Pretty, which is due next year!

Balu Brigada – ‘OH! Not Again’
We are sitting here with ‘OH! Not Again’ on a loop and are almost certain that this song would have made an appearance on our Spotify Wrapped if it came out a little sooner. We are doing a full deep-dive into Balu Brigada after hearing this track, that’s how obsessed we are.
