We’re respectfully losing our minds over ‘Cruel,’ the latest release from Broadside featuring Brian Butcher from The Home Team. We do in fact love Broadside and everything they do so it’s no surprise that we love ‘Cruel’ so much. We’ve only had it for a day sure, but it’s still quickly climbing to the top of our on-repeat playlists.
First, we just wanna take a minute to acknowledge the music video. The Broadside boys are showing off their acting chops with this one, bringing us a hotel money heist with ‘Cruel’ as the soundtrack. We’re also kind of living for Dom hopping on the bed mid-heist because honestly, what a mood. And there’s an appearance from Brian to round the whole video out.
Speaking of Brian, his verse on this track is absolutely insane, flowing from Ollie’s line about Tony Danza. Whew, we kinda just want that on a loop tbh, who let them do that? ‘Cruel’ is the type of song you can dance to and vibe along with, but at the same time, it has lyrics that make you stop and go “oh sh*t.”

This song is about facing your fears, … For years, I’ve allowed my dreams to slip out of my hands from things I can’t control. ‘Cruel’ as a song, is about hitting the nail on the head, allowing yourself to be washed out in the headlights of oncoming traffic. If you’ve got something to lose, this world is cruel, or it can be. So hold on tight.

If we had to describe Broadside’s music we’d say it’s music that makes you “shake a** and face your feelings.” And really, that’s what it is. ‘Cruel’ embodies that. Whether things are good, bad, or somewhere in between, the world can be a cruel place. Sometimes all you can do is hang on for the ride. And if you need us, we’ll be enjoying the rollercoaster of life while shaking a** to Broadside.
