Summary: Darcy believes in love at first sight.
Even though it’s never happened to her, she’s spent her whole life waiting for that perfect, magical moment. But right now, her life is anything but perfect. In the aftermath of a music festival, she’s stranded at a bus station until morning—the day before she leaves for college. Her phone is dead, she has no cash, and she’s convinced nothing good can come of this night…but then she meets Russell.
Russell. Cute and nice, funny, and kind. She knows this is the moment—and the guy—she’s been waiting for. And they have until sunrise to walk and talk and connect.
Over the course of this one fateful night—filled with football field picnics, night swimming, and escape-artist dogs—Darcy and Russell’s lives will change forever. They’ll discover things they never imagined about each other…and about themselves.
But can you really know someone after only a handful of hours? Is it possible to fall in love in just one day?
And is it worth saying hello…when you know you’re destined for a goodbye?
It’s Made For Romantics
The Ballad of Darcy and Russell is perfect for you if you love books that sweep you off your feet! Darcy and Russell fall in love at first sight, and they immediately click. They look for a phone charger in the middle of nowhere, Nevada, spending the day together in the most spontaneous way possible. It’s every rom-com lover’s dream, and each romantic moment has been engraved in our minds!
Darcy’s Character Development
Since Darcy’s mom, Gillian, left her and her dad to pursue her acting career and start a new family, Darcy has only ever understood life as black and white. The Ballad of Darcy and Russell does a fantastic job of developing her character. Darcy eventually understands that not everything can be black or white, or all or nothing. There can be gray areas in every part of her life, and she must decide how to react accordingly.
The Love Interest
Oh, Russell. Such a sweet and gallant love interest for Darcy. We definitely weren’t expecting the big twist about his family and background though! He’s a theater kid who knows too many fun facts to count. And best of all, Russell is super romantic! The way he treats Darcy on their day together has us swooning. From the way he laughs to the way he lights up about musicals, even we fell in love at first sight!
