Rising pop icon ADÉLA first proved her potential while competing on the survival show Dream Academy and in the documentary Pop Star Academy, which eventually created the global group KATSEYE, but she’s truly bringing that potential to the next level with her sophomore single, ‘SUPERSCAR!’ The song is a thought-provoking commentary on what the entertainment industry demands from young talent, drawing from her experiences with dance, music, and more. It’s camp, it’s catchy, and it’s so ADÉLA! She’s destined to become a glimmering pop provocateur who’s never afraid to speak her mind, and inspires others to embody the same confidence.
We’re feeling pretty super ourselves right now, because we got to ask ADÉLA all about ‘SUPERSCAR,’ her journey so far, and so much more! Check out ‘SUPERSCAR’ below, then keep reading for our exclusive Q&A with ADÉLA herself.
Hi ADÉLA, congrats on your new single, ‘SUPERSCAR!’ How does it feel to share the song with the world and see how much your fans love it?
hi!! thank u for talking to me! it feels amazing, i’m so excited to see what the girlies think of this one. it’s very special to me.
What does ‘SUPERSCAR’ mean to you?
‘SUPERSCAR’ talks about my experience in the entertainment industry. i started ballet when i was 3 years old, going professional by 11, and then obviously entering the music industry so publicly… i’ve definitely always struggled with feeling as though the talent has to succumb to pressures of those in power, so that’s what that is about!
There are so many thought-provoking lyrics on ‘SUPERSCAR,’ with one of our favorites being “tie me up, pull my strings and make me sing.” Is there a certain line you’re especially proud of?
i love that line too!! i think my favorite might’ve been “lucky, lucky you. you found your monetary fantasy” from the second verse. i just love the way “monetary fantasy” sounds and sings and what imagery it evokes. i was really excited when i came up with that one!!
With the scar theme in mind, what kind of lasting impact do you want to have on your fans?
i want to inspire my fans to be themselves even when it feels like it isn’t welcomed or wanted. complete authenticity is tested in moments of adversity – and i want them to be so confident in themselves that they pass that test with flying colors.
You’ve described ‘SUPERSCAR’ as being about how young women are treated in the entertainment industry. How do you think this treatment should change, and how can fans help make the music industry a safer place for the artists they love?
i definitely think this treatment applies to young women and men alike. moreso than gender, it’s about power dynamics. it’s so easy to see a small player and want to f*ck around with them and use them when you’re the one in power. i just think people should treat talent like humans with emotions, stories, families, and less like commodities or products that they can get a quick buck from. would you do this to me if i was your daughter? maybe that’s a good question to ask yourself haha.
A lot of your fans first found you while you were competing on Pop Star Academy and Dream Academy! What’s something you learned during that time that you’ve carried with you into your solo career?
i’ve learned so much! from a professional point of view, i’ve improved in my art forms through training and working hard. also built relationships and friendships that are so precious and meaningful. but i think more than anything, i realized how much i truly crave to be heard, and to be able to express myself freely in my art. authenticity comes first to me now, which is something i will preach forever.
Your debut single, ‘HOMEWRECKED,’ totally blew up – congrats on its success so far! What was it like for you to see such a big response on your first release?
thank you!! it was super insane but i have to say i don’t think i’ve really internalized it yet. it doesn’t seem real to me that a million people could’ve listened to my song cause i haven’t ever seen a million of anything. i always say that it’s gonna start feeling real when i do live shows. seeing everybody flesh and bone will be craaazy… but i’m obviously so grateful and excited.
How do you feel you’ve grown as an artist since releasing ‘HOMEWRECKED?’
‘HOMEWRECKED’ was my first-ever song and the first step in the story and world I am building. I think I haven’t changed all that much, to be honest! It hasn’t been that long ago— we wrote the song in june. my vision for what i want to do and what things i like is so crystal clear that i knew back then and i know now too, exactly what i like. i have started to enjoy more left-center pop sounds and have been way more experimental with newer stuff i’ve been making, but that seems like a natural progression, so yeah!
In addition to your music, we love your fun sense of style! Where do you find fashion inspo?
thank you, that’s so nice! i find fashion inspo in my brain, pinterest, social media, magazines, i follow some great fashion historians on ig and tiktok. i love looking at images of archival haute couture collections too.
What can your fans look forward to in the rest of 2024?
more music! more visuals! more singing! more dancing! more c*ntery! more serving!
Is there anything else you’d like to mention or say to your fans that the questions didn’t touch on?
thank you! thank you for listening to the songs, for sharing my project, for liking videos, for sending me good energy and vibes. you’re collectively making my dreams come true step by step and being an independent artist, those things are so nice to see/hear/feel. you found me early, it’s gonna be really cool growing together:) xoxo
Thank you so much ADÉLA for answering all our questions, we can’t wait to keep growing together! And of course, we’ll have ‘SUPERSCAR’ on repeat throughout our hive.
