Grab your cowboy boots and denim jackets, because we’re inching closer and closer to the release of mgk’s seventh album, lost americana, on August 8th! He made the tracklist reveal into a full-on telethon event for us, taking to Twitch to unveil the tracklist and call some lucky fans. To make things more fun, he even gave us a sneak peek of the box sets, showed us his cats, and played a little snippet of ‘miss sunshine,’ out July 25th.
Check out the full tracklist below, with a few notes on our theories about certain songs!
- ‘outlaw overture’
- ‘cliché’ (THEORY: Maybe we’ll see the sad version included on some kind of deluxe edition?)
- ‘run rebel run’
- ‘goddamn’ (THEORY: Doesn’t this almost sound like an antithesis to ‘god save me?’)
- ‘vampire diaries’
- ‘miss sunshine’
- ‘sweet coraline’ (THEORY: Maybe a spin on ‘Sweet Caroline’ with a wicked twist that draws from Coraline?)
- ‘indigo’
- ‘starman’
- ‘tell me what’s up’
- ‘can’t stay here’
- ‘treading water’
- ‘orpheus’ (THEORY: This song might be a reference to the Greek myth of Orpheus, who makes a deal with Hades to rescue his late wife, Eurydice, from the Underworld. The only condition is that he ‘can’t look back’ as she walks out behind him. Depending on which version of the story you read, Orpheus either can’t hear her footsteps and looks back to check if she’s actually there, or hears her trip and looks back to try to help her. He violates Hades’ rule for the journey either way and loses Eurydice all over again.)
We’re beyond hyped about hearing lost americana in just a few weeks! Now that we have the tracklist, EST has a little job to do: claiming the songs we think we’ll love most. Nevermind, that’s not really a little job. It’s kind of the most important thing you’ll do before August 8th other than streaming ‘cliché,’ ‘vampire diaries,’ and ‘miss sunshine’ on a loop.
