We’ve been jamming out to The Ivy for a little over a year now, ever since we saw them on tour with Grayscale last summer, but The Ivy has been around for a few years, making amazing music. If you like bands like The Band Camino and anything in the indie-pop/rock sphere, you’re definitely going to want to check them out. Actually, you might want to check them out so you’re geared up for their new album. That’s right, The Ivy just announced their debut album, A Door Still Open, dropping next year on February 23, 2024 and we can’t wait!
We thought we’d share some tracks by The Ivy to get you started on your musical exploration journey, so buckle up and let’s get into it!
‘Be Like You’
‘Be Like You’ is The Ivy’s latest single, which dropped earlier this month. It’s definitely a darker, edgier side of their sound, so if you like a more grunge-inspired track, this is the one for you! This track explores the pressure we put on ourselves in the digital age ruled by social media, and it’s an all-around fantastic track you should definitely check out.
‘Have You Ever Been in Love’
This song is a quintessential The Ivy track, one of two that launched The Ivy to viral status back in 2017 (the other being ‘Gold’). So, of course, we had to include it in our list, not just for that reason but because it’s a great song. ‘Have You Ever Been in Love’ is all indie-pop vibes with smooth vocals and a catchy beat, and it’s a great place to start if you’re just getting into The Ivy.
‘Street Dog’
‘Street Dog’ is another release from earlier this summer. Fun fact: it was partially inspired by actual street dogs that the band saw while on a writing trip in Mexico which is super cool! We actually got to chat with The Ivy about this song, so be sure to check out that interview to read more about it.
‘Thirty Eight’
We’re personally just huge fans of ‘Thirty Eight,’ and we need everyone to know that. Something about the melody and composition of this song hit our brains just right, and the chorus has a way of sticking in your head; it’s catchy like that. ‘Thirty Eight’ feelings of bittersweet nostalgia with both the sound and the lyrics:
I know you don’t care about me now
I’m living with a hope that we somehow
Make it back to the thirty-eighth street days
This is definitely one of our favorite tracks from The Ivy (for now, A Door Still Open might throw us a curveball that tops the list,) and you definitely need to check it out.
‘Too Much’
‘Too Much’ is a little too relatable sometimes, and we need to know how The Ivy did that. Like, just look at these lyrics:
I won’t wait around
Til you change your mind
Just give me something
We love the beat of this one, and we can’t help but dance along in our seats as we’re writing this with the song on a loop. True story. We hope some of the A Door Still Open tracks sound like this because we WILL be grooving along. (Though let’s be real, we’ll be grooving along regardless)
We’re super stoked for The Ivy’s A Door Still Open, and we hope you are too! We can’t wait to hear what they have in store for us; whether it sounds more like ‘Be Like You’ or takes us back to the ‘Thirty Eight’ street days, we’re super excited. We hope you enjoyed our list of tracks to check out from The Ivy and that we successfully made you a fan.
