From YouTuber to frontman of the internationally beloved band As It Is, Patty Walters has done a lot over the years. He has a pretty noteworthy following, and as he keeps being himself through music, it’s hard to see his career going anywhere but upwards. We absolutely love him here at The Honey POP, and we want to do our public service of making sure you do too! So here are 5 reasons why you should stan him as hard as we do.
His Humble Beginnings
As said before, Patty started his career as a musician on YouTube. He gained a following by making covers of popular alternative songs and uploading them to the platform. There, he amassed a following of 429,000 subscribers and still gets views despite being inactive since 2014. He left to focus on As It Is full-time, and with the direction and heights his career has gone in, to say we’re anything other than proud would be a lie.
The Talent He Has
Patty’s grown a lot as a musician, and it shows. As a singer, this progress has been well-documented in the different eras of his band, with him getting comfortable in things like screaming and using the lower part of his vocal range. Aside from that, he also plays a variety of instruments, including guitar, drums, ukulele, and the keyboard. Talk about putting your eggs in multiple baskets! Talented king.
How He Uses His Platform
Ever since his YouTube days, Patty hasn’t been afraid of using his platform in a positive way. On his second channel, PattyxWalters, he spoke quite a bit about mental health and its related topics, something that’s now a vital part of his lyrics. He also spoke out in favor of Black Lives Matter in 2020 and urged fans to get the Covid-19 vaccination the following year, showing that the love he has for his fans is genuine.
His Dedication To As It Is
While we love each member equally, both past and present, it has to be acknowledged and appreciated that Patty’s been here for the full ride. He started the group with now-ex-guitarist Ben Langford-Biss and has stayed throughout every lineup change, currently being accompanied only by Ronnie Ish in the band’s journey to the future.
His Lyrical Abilities
We feel like this is a cheat since we’ve already talked about the sheer amount of talent he has, but we’re counting it anyway because what good is a singer without lyrics? Patty’s been writing for As It Is since their inception and has only gotten better with time. He does lean on others for help every now and then, but he also knows how to make his abilities shine on their own, with one example being the song ‘Hey Rachel.’
All in all, Patty’s grown a ton over the years and has only given us more reasons to continue stanning him. He’s done a lot with his life so far, and we can’t wait for where the future takes him next! There are more reasons than not to look up to the singer, so give him a chance if you haven’t!
