Cavetown’s wormfood Is Finally Ours And We Are Ready To Eat

Cavetown has a way of somehow getting ahold of our therapist’s notes and making the most tragically-beautiful art from them. So like, well let it slide. wormfood is yet another example of Cavetown’s ability to coin the most achingly beautiful lyrics and weave them into our favorite sweater.

This is Cavetown’s first full-length record since his release. We’ve had this day circled on our calendars since he announced wormfood back when he released ‘1994!’ Rounding out by Skinner producing this album on his own, this is an album full of storybook-like lyrics talking about our most intimate fears and feelings.

To celebrate the release of wormfood, here are some of our favorite tracks off the album!

‘kill u’

Track two on wormfood is ‘kill u,’ a track that made our jaws drop to the floor when we first heard it. This song feels like we opened up a page in Cavetown’s journal to read for ourselves. With opening synths reminiscent of early 2010s electronic pop music, this song both fuels and comforts our mental breakdowns. “yeah honestly I’d kill you if I could, and I can’t fall asleep, guess this is adulthood.”

‘frog’

You know we’ve had this track on loop since it dropped. There’s something extremely magnetic about the way Cavetown illustrates being in love with someone while managing your own insecurities at the same time. “I’m your frog, kiss me better all night long.”

‘better’

We mean this in the best way, ouch. This track depicts the internal war of realizing how far you’ve come, but still feeling like it isn’t far enough. That restless feeling of still needing to just be better. “Stop crying in my room, I want to be someone who, you feel better around, but I don’t know if I can get better for you.”

‘juno’

This is the second to last track on the record, and what a way to begin the close of an album. Depicting loving someone so passionately that you would do anything to see them smile. All while battling your internal battles and truthfully wanting to give up altogether. But sometimes sticking around to make sure the person you love is being loved properly is worth constantly battling those demons. “I do it for juno, pretend her life is on the line, manipulate myself into staying alive”
