EVNNE Shows Us A New Un: SEEN Side With ‘UGLY’

Back in September, EVNNE made their debut and introduced us to their world. Target: ME was everything we could’ve asked from their debut, and we knew it was only a matter of time before EVNNE would expand on that world with their comeback and blow us away once again.

And that’s exactly what EVNNE did with their second mini-album, Un: SEEN.

‘UGLY’

Right from the first few seconds of ‘UGLY,’ we knew we would be obsessed with this song. The mixture of pop, EDM, and techno makes it music excellence, and ‘UGLY’ does it in a new and refreshing way. The track opens with killer rap verses that make it impossible to even think of something else. And while ‘UGLY’ gives us a techno drop, the post-chorus has an addictive pop melody. It is the best of both worlds. ‘UGLY’ is so good that you could listen to it a hundred times and still find something new in the vocals, rap, and production.

Their debut ‘TROUBLE‘ was all about establishing themselves as an untameable force; ‘UGLY’ shows a whole new side to them. ‘UGLY’ sounds as confident and bold as ‘TROUBLE.’ But EVNNE actually embrace some their vulnerabilities and imperfections here and celebrate them. ‘UGLY’ is all about letting go and being true to who you are, even if it isn’t pretty or perfect. And that’s a great message to have in such a banger of a song if you ask us.

Un: SEEN

The title track is far from being the only thing Un: SEEN has to offer. The b-sides are everything to us. We see again how EVNNE switch and play with different genres through these songs. And we love that.

‘SYRUP’ is the perfect b-side to complement ‘UGLY.’ Similarly to the title track, the first b-side opens with some amazing rap verses that will get stuck in your head. Initially, it feels like a dark song, but don’t let it fool you. Because that one (1) line before the chorus changes everything. It totally switches the song to a brighter, more rhythmic sound. ‘SYRUP’ is an entire experience on its own, and you will never regret listening to it.

‘K.O’ is all about how resilient they are and how they have fought to be where they are. It carries that message on top of a bright, upbeat, and cheerful production that mixes techno with an evident influence of video game music. And it makes it so special and fun. But the title of the most unique song in Un: SEEN and EVNNE’s entire discography must go to ‘Chase.’ It’s the most clear instance of mixing genres, with R&B, hip-hop, and a chorus that sounds like it’s taken out of a musical. Whatever they put into this song to make it so addictive, we want more.

While ‘SYRUP’ and ‘Chase’ counted with some of the EVNNE members’ participation in the lyrics, ‘Festa’ was composed by Keita. So we already knew it was going to be our favorite. It was no surprise to find out that ‘Festa’ is an absolute party anthem that will cheer you up from the first few seconds. With a touch of retro, this closing track sets the energy through the roof. It’s bright, joyful, fun, and the boost of serotonin everyone needs. Who wouldn’t love a track like this one?

Target: ME had already made us fall in love with these boys as a group, but Un: SEEN confirmed how good they are together. EVNNE pushed the boundaries and unveiled something truly special, unique, refreshing, and simply unforgettable. It is clear they’re giving their all into everything they touch, and we’re loving every single second of it.
