It’s safe to say that Yena’s music truly just keeps getting better with every comeback, so you can only imagine how excited we were about GOOD MORNING. And Yena did not disappoint in the slightest. Her third mini-album is everything everyone who loves K-Pop and Pop-Rock needs in their lives. Yena has served us again, and this time, with what is her best release yet!
‘Good Morning’
This new title track is everything we love about Yena: uplifting, bright, cheerful, and filled with pop-rock inspiration. ‘Good Morning’ takes the genre’s influence even further with heavier guitars and drums, shifting almost to a pop-punk sound. And Yena fits this perfect middle point between brightness and pop-punk so incredibly well – it was literally made for her. This anthem is all about taking it one day at a time, trying not to worry about the past or the future, and living in the now. It’s the boost of serotonin and energy we all desperately need.
And yeah, listening to ‘Good Morning’ in the morning makes it hit harder and gives us the same power as a good, warm cup of coffee.
The B-Sides
Yena has always had incredible b-sides in her releases, but she truly outdid herself with every single b-side in GOOD MORNING. Starting with ‘Good Girls in the Dark.’ This b-side serves as the song to showcase Yena’s duality and darker side. The song has a truly addictive guitar riff and is the most pop song in the mini-album. As she sings about a relationship’s toxic push and pull, Yena served us absolute pop excellence in ‘Good Girls in the Dark.’
And it’s far from ending there. ‘Damn U’ is the perfect mixture of the pop-rock in ‘Good Morning’ and the dark atmosphere of ‘Good Girls in the Dark.’ This third song is an upbeat breakup anthem, but it still has some bittersweet elements, making it simply a masterpiece. ‘The Ugly Duckling’ is the perfect closing track. It starts slow and builds up into a striking and unforgettable pop-rock ballad full of hope and power. She gave us the song to survive the winter.
GOOD MORNING is a must-listen for anyone who loves music – not a single skip, only Yena overflowing with talent and songs that can only be considered masterpieces. It is clear that Yena was born to do this, and we love every part of it.
