Last Dinosaurs Bring A Snappy Retro Indie Rock Groove

Last-Dinosaurs-New-Single-N-P-D-Out-Now

It’s time to get into an indie rock song with a snappy 90s sitcom-themed song vibe. We’re talking about Last Dinosaur’s latest release, ‘N.P.D, ‘ on their upcoming concept album: KYO//RYU. KYO//RYU will be an exciting and adventurous album that we can’t wait for. Last Dinosaurs’ forthcoming album is a creation based on the brothers and songwriters Sean and Lachlan. KYO//RYU comes from their middle names, Kyohei and Ryusuke, with a mixture of creative direction from sci-graphic novels, retro-futuristic aesthetics, and their Japanese heritage.

With that in mind, ‘N.P.D’ sonically exists in both a futuristic and nostalgic space, making it the ideal leading single to pull in current and prospective fans. As mentioned, ‘N.P.D’ is a song we can imagine being played as a sitcom theme; now knowing about their concept approach for KYO//RYU and having a manga-anime comic book to accompany the album, without a doubt ‘N.P.D’ was created with an anime theme song structure in mind.

Entering A New Era Of Last Dinosaur

‘N.P.D’ is our first introduction to this Australian indie-rock band. Let’s break down this Last Dinosaur release and why you should listen. ‘N.P.D’ has a great hook that will last in your mind. A song with a melodic guitar, groovy bass, and drum line results in a lighthearted and warming beat with an oceanic flow. Meaning that it’s a tune that feels breezy, a bit beachy, and it’ll get you moving immediately.

Despite this, the lyrics tell a different story. The backtrack masks the lyricism unfolding a narrative of a push-and-pull relationship. Last Dinosaurs sings a tale of their lover that sounds dismissive. But can we even say lover?

When you’re feeling up, well that’s when I bring you down. And I hear my voice, I guess I love that sound. Forgot to ask about your time in Spain but you can spare me today, cause I’m walking away.”

It’s clear that the parties involved like each other, but both are filling in a void. It’s a false love, also known as doing a relationship without care. Some of us may know what it’s like when you’re “doing” a relationship but aren’t fully in and missing out on the full scope of who the other person is.

“Baby, You Got It Coming”

They know how the relationship will end but keep ties for accessibility. She knows the game that she is playing, and the Last Dinosaurs knows theirs. Equally full of minimal effort yet looking for a bite of quick fun. Therefore, they aren’t lovers as that’s not love, albeit they might hope that the tides will change for a different outcome.

The upbeat instrumental is the layer of hope that both individuals will end the game. And, come to an agreed ending. Either they get together or call it quits. We will never know how it’ll truly pan out, but we get one h*ll of a song to jam to.

“I Got So Much To Gain If I Get It Right”

Last Dinosaurs is a band leaning into the futuristic approach necessary to stand out in their music and brand. This Indie-Rock band from Brisbane, consisting of Sean Caskey, Lachlan Caskey, Danjuro Koyama, and Michael Sloane, has been tearing up the Australian rock scene since 2007! ‘N.P.D’ is setting the stage for their next discography adventure, and it’s time for us to have them heavily on our watch.
