Right now, it feels like a breath of fresh air. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and A.C.E have made their much-anticipated comeback with My Girl: “My Choice.” This sixth mini-album is their first comeback in two and a half years since all members of the group completed their mandatory military service, meaning it truly felt like every holiday combined for CHOICE!
The seven-track record exhibits a more mature sound for the quintet, with storytelling that connects them deeper with their fans, exploring the “reasons for existence” with a love story while incorporating “Conatus,” the essence and core power of all beings. This comeback also brings the artists closer to the fans as CHOICE get involved with the title track, strengthening the bond more than ever before.
We were lucky enough to catch up with A.C.E to discuss all things comeback, their return to the music scene, and their beloved fans.
Hi, A.C.E! Welcome to The Honey POP, it’s so great to see you guys together again! What did you miss the most about the idol career while fulfilling your military service?
Donghun: We missed the stage the most. We missed the moment when we laughed and cried with our fans the most. Those moments reminded me of my desperation for the stage once again.
WOW: I really missed performing music on stage and listening to the fans’ cheers.
The Long-Awaited Comeback
CHOICE have been waiting diligently for you to complete your mandatory military service, and now you’re back! What are some things that your fans can look forward to that’s coming up in this new era of A.C.E?
Junhee: I want CHOICE to check out the moment when our music spreads around the world. I love you!
The music video for ‘My Girl’ follows the members as professionals at the fictional company Petflix. Keeping in line with the concept, if you worked at a real office, what position would each member hold?
WOW: Creative Marketing!
Junhee: I think I would have been in charge of marketing tasks. I often have a fun imagination in my brain. (laughs)
Byeongkwan: Sales team!
Lee Donghun: I think I would suit well with a marketing team that does a lot of creative discussion and production.
Your last tour outside Asia was in 2019, and while it’s already confirmed that you will be having a Japanese tour kicking off in April, American (both North & South) and European CHOICE are DYING to see you. Are there any hints or plans to come back to the continents soon?
Junhee: Absolutely. Honestly, I would like to go anywhere if we have the chance. Wherever our fans are! As for the U.S., we are heading there in June!
Byeongkwan: I want to go wherever CHOICEs are! We are discussing several tours besides the U.S. tour, so please wait a little bit. ❤️
We know that CHOICE will be so happy to hear that! Speaking of touring and traveling, what is one unusual/surprising item that you cannot leave for tour without?
Junhee: Portable chargers… Earphones… I might die without them… 😭
Byeongkwan: Allergic rhinitis medicine!

Behind The Scenes
‘My Girl’ explores a different, more soothing sound compared to your more powerful title tracks. What were any concerns you might’ve had going into the studio?
Donghun: I was worried if the public would like it because A.C.E is more well-known for its strong performance. However, I was glad that the public loved our new sides as well.
Well, we absolutely love it! It seems every time you have a release, some aspect goes viral, from your outstanding stage presence to your styling and concepts to your skills with both dance and vocals. If you could choose one funny/silly/ unserious thing to go viral for, what would it be this comeback?
Junhee: We taught our fans the fan chant for ‘My Girl’ during this comeback, and we added a choreography for this one particular fan chant. (laughs) It was a simple hand gesture. The fans copied it at the broadcasting station, and it was so cute and lovely!
For this comeback, you offered an incredible chance to a lot of CHOICE to be part of your music video. What was it like to work with your fans?
Byeongkwan: I was very nervous and excited because it’s been a while since I’ve seen them properly, but I’m grateful to the fans for creating such a good memory.
In the ‘My Girl’ MV, you show the stress people who take on the title ‘professionals’ go through and compare it to the freeing feeling that comes when accepting we aren’t perfect or robots. What kind of mindset do you have when you take on a new challenge/when you get on stage? Do you have a secret on how you deal with stress?
Donghun: I like to relax at home without being bothered by anyone. I usually calm myself down and relieve any stress by going for a walk or watching movies.
WOW: I try to clear my mind and when it doesn’t work well, I tend to find activities that don’t require a lot of thought, such as exercise.
Honestly, great ideas. We’re The Honey POP! And honey is sweet, so naturally, sweet things are our FAVORITE things. So, to wrap things up, we’d love for you to each say one nice thing about each other.
Junhee: Yuchan, you’re really… so cool. You’re doing great, and let’s continue to be cool… I love you, you know, right? 🤍
