We’ve been vibing hard with post-hardcore band, Capstan’s new music. All of their singles, including their latest, ‘What You Want’ have been nothing short of amazing. It’s just a little under a month until Capstan’s new album, The Mosaic is released! We’re super stoked to bring you an exclusive interview with Capstan! We got the chance to chat with the band about their upcoming album. Let’s jump right in.
Hi and welcome to The Honey POP! We’re so excited to have you! For our readers who might not be familiar with your music, can you share a bit about yourselves?
Thanks for having us! Originating from Central Florida, Capstan has been consistently releasing music for over ten years now. What started as a pop-punk/post-hardcore crossover has slowly evolved into a sound that spans numerous forms of music and vibes, drawing from eclectic genres such as deathcore, acoustic folk, and synthwave.
Your new album, The Mosaic comes out next month. What were the main inspirations behind the album?
I would say the main inspiration for the entire record, though indirect at times, is the love and support of family and loved ones. All of us became fathers or expecting fathers during the course of writing and recording The Mosaic, and there were certainly a lot of shifting perspectives that blossomed into creative moments that we all love, even more so than any of our previous work!
You self-produced, engineered, and recorded the album yourselves, which is incredible! What were the best and hardest things about doing it all yourselves?
I think that both the best and hardest things are two sides of the same coin. Not having traditional studio time constraints certainly allows for a lot of creativity, but can simultaneously lead to overworking or overanalyzing micro sections of the music if you aren’t careful!

What song are you most excited for fans to hear and why?
The entire band’s favorite song from The Mosaic is unanimously the title track. By far the longest song we have ever written, we feel it really encapsulates the record as much as possible within a single song.
Do you have a favorite lyric from the album?
It’s hard to say, but if anything it would be from the final track. “…hate only stems from the loss of the only thing we ever really need at all, our glimpse of each other so very small, a monocolored fragment of an endless vibrant sprawl.”
The 10 year anniversary of Seasonal Depression is coming up. What have you learned from making that album all the way up to now?
Ah jeez, I feel like the old lady in the beginning of Titanic. It’s been a hell of a journey, but one thing I can proudly say is that Capstan has always been true to ourselves throughout our musical career. We will continue to write with honesty as we grow in our own sound and evolution. We all think that this era of Capstan’s art is its greatest, and it’s only looking up from here.
Let’s talk about your recent music videos. What was filming the music for ‘Misery Scene’ like?
It was a really fun time, it pretty much always is every time we get together to make a video! Our drummer Scott has recently stepped up into the role of Capstan’s unofficial music video director/producer, and most of our recent video concepts were thought up by him, including ‘Misery Scene,’ so we’re really lucky to have some of that vision in the band!
You also recently released one for ‘Heart To Heart,’ which we absolutely loved. What was the inspiration behind it?
We just thought it would be cool to portray the emotion and narrative of the song as represented in a way that some people might not necessarily expect, and we were really happy with how it turned out!
You’re going on tour soon, which is so exciting! What’s one of your favorite past tour memories?
I think that all of us really cherish the memory of going to Europe together for the first time, and being able to connect with the fans there! A truly unforgettable experience.
Last question. We’re all about the power of manifestation. If there’s one thing you could speak into existence for Capstan, what would it be?
The ability to support our families solely through this music that we pour our entire being into. Almost all of us have children now and still have to work other jobs on the side when we’re not out on the road touring. It’s becoming increasingly difficult for all of us to find a balance, but we’re still hopeful, and intend to create music for as long as it’s possible.
If you haven’t already pre-ordered their new album, be sure to do so! We’d like to thank Capstan for taking the time to chat with us. What did you think about our interview with Capstan?
