Huddy’s Love Bites But Our Love For Him Doesn’t!

Huddy turned 22 and we’re the ones that got a present? We love that. Huddy’s Love Bites EP dropped on his birthday, May 15th, which if you ask us is a perfect way to celebrate. It feels like just yesterday we were adding ’21st Century Vampire’ and ‘Don’t Freak Out’ to all of our playlists and listening to them on repeat and now look how far he’s come. Love Bites adds two new tracks for you to sink your teeth into (or four, if you haven’t heard ’21’ or ‘Mugshot’ yet) and, despite the name, the story behind these tracks is pretty wholesome.

Now, one important thing to note about the title Love Bites is that it is a double entendre. Huddy says that “it not only alludes to a hickey, but it also means that love can bite you in the ass if you let it.” This sentiment is certainly expressed in the EP.

And the Love Bites EP does not shy away from that theme. The title track’s lyrics dive into the more explicit meaning of ‘Love Bites’ (though we’ll let you check out the rest of those lyrics for yourself):

We don’t play nice, l-l-love bites
Feel your teeth on my skin

Okay, what’s the move? Fall in love with you (Yeah, yeah)
Yeah, I can take pleasure and pain if you want me to

The second new track ‘Worst Way’ speaks to the second meaning of Love Bites.

So baby, love me in the worst way, worst way
I kinda love the way my heart breaks, heart breaks

SOS, can you save me?
Sinking ship and it’s sinking fast
Hold me close, yeah, I’m so attached

The idea of love biting you in the ass if you let it seems pretty clear from the ‘Worst Way’ lyrics. Knowing that the love you have with someone is painful but still holding on to it anyway is kind of the definition of letting love bite you, if you ask us.

Placing these songs in context with ‘21‘ and ‘Mugshot’ tells the Love Bites EP’s story. It is four distinct sonic journeys that tell four distinct emotional stories as well. From the craziness of a fresh relationship in ‘Mugshot’ to the more wholesome notion of a solid love in ’21,’ with ‘Worst Way’ and ‘Love Bites’ filling in the gaps along the way, Love Bites really is a complete love story that Huddy is telling in his way.
