The British music scene has given us icons like Queen, Adele, Amy Winehouse, and One Direction. It’s safe to say that the UK soil has undoubtedly birthed entertainment legends. Now, it’s given us another: South East London singer Dido Wilson has recently made her debut as the R&B and Soul singer to watch. To celebrate her debut, we’re introducing Dido Wilson, who she is as an artist, and her debut single ‘Messages’ we know our THP! fam will adore.
Who Is Dido Wilson?
Remember this name because Dido Wilson is destined to hit the headlines. She’s a fresh and exciting voice in the R&B and Soul space. As one of six creative siblings, Dido has drawn her inspiration to sing from a young age, with idols like Jessie J prompting her to pursue music. Impressively, she is also self-taught on the guitar and piano. Her sound? Well, if you love Amy Winehouse and Corrine Bailey Rae, you’ll love Dido Wilson.
Dido’s Debut With ‘Messages’
Dido Wilson’s debut song ‘Messages’ is a declaration of self-worth. It’s all about rejecting substandard attempts to gain someone else’s liking and, instead, looking for more meaningful connections. The track is sprinkled with self-discovery themes we know and love through effervescent instrumentation and Dido’s smooth vocals. Plus, with her British accent, honest lyrics, and the track’s groovy beat – it’s impossible not to love.
Dido Wilson reflects on the inspiration behind ‘Messages’ explaining: “I wrote Messages after a Hinge date that flopped. I was single and getting my confidence back after being in a long relationship. It was the first time I realized I could have fun whilst also figuring out my wants and needs. I learnt what standards I wanted to hold myself to, as well as the people I date. So I’m no longer accepting boring, stupid messages that take up my time.”
Dido Wilson’s songs carry broad relatability through honest songwriting. She candidly describes the highs and lows of a young woman navigating life and love in London. Musically, Dido is already so polished, and those jazz, funk, and pop influences seamlessly weave into her debut, which has us excited about what’s to come.
As young women living in the city, we feel heard with Dido’s debut. It’s so important that music connects with us in this way. So, THP! fam, if you’re reading this in 2024, you’ve come at the perfect time to join us as we celebrate and witness Dido Wilson bloom!
