Rain City Drive appeared on our radar courtesy of Spotify’s shuffle feature and, boy, are we thankful for that. The band formed in 2020 so we’re a little late on the RCD train, but we’re just happy that we finally made it! If you like post-hardcore bands, Rain City Drive is the act for you! Their new track ‘Neverbloom’ just dropped, so let’s talk about it.
I wrote ‘Neverbloom’ about my dad who passed when I was 24. I find myself thinking how I wish he could see the things I’ve accomplished and the man that I’ve become. It’s about learning to live with the reality that he only got to see the beginning of my journey, the seeds I planted, but won’t see my flowers bloom.

‘Neverbloom’ is a poignant, raw, and emotional dive into the realities of grief and living life knowing your loved one is gone. Losing someone you love is painful, and losing them young before they had a chance to see you bloom can be even more painful. Rain City Drive captures those emotions perfectly on ‘Neverbloom.’ The track’s theme showcases a softer side of Rain City Drive’s heavier, powerful sound and Matt McAndrew’s vocals really drive the emotions home.

In terms of favorite lyrics, we honestly want to list the whole song because every single part stands out in telling this story, but in the interest of space, we’ll just highlight some of our favorites:

Rain City Drive pulled us out of our music slump and we’ll definitely be streaming ‘Neverbloom’ and the rest of their discography on repeat for the foreseeable future. Other songs we’ve been loving from them that we want to mention (read: entice you to listen to) are: ‘Heavier,’ ‘Witch Hunt,’ ‘Footprints,’ and ‘Prayers.’
