Hi, Our Name Is Obsessed With hi, my name is insecure By Sam Tompkins

Sam Tompkins has been leaving us speechless for a while now with his music since we first heard it. So of course we just had to talk about his debut album, which just came out, called hi, my name is insecure. We’ve talked about one of the songs, ‘phones in heaven,’ before but we’re so thrilled to finally have the full album here now, and let us tell you, it is filled with deep and powerful songs that brought tears to our eyes (this is a compliment, btw.)

Just based on the singles we heard from Sam Tompkins before the album, we knew this album would be both vulnerable and gut-wrenching in the best way possible. We can hear the grief pouring out of songs like ‘phones in heaven’ and ‘almost killed me’ and the bitterness in ‘dead to me’ (which, by the way, became one of our favorite songs as soon as we heard the line “so take it all up with Jesus, baby, he’s more forgiving than me.”)

On the other hand, hi, my name is insecure also brings some songs on the more hopeful side which we also quickly fell in love with, like ‘lose it all’ and the title track ‘hi, my name is insecure.’ We love the message behind ‘lose it all’ of being terrified of losing that special person and the future you might have together, and no one can convince us that a song that has the lyrics “I’m letting you know that if I ever lose you I’ll lose it all” couldn’t be a perfect first dance song at a wedding.

And when it comes to ‘hi, my name is insecure’ we relate so much to the sentiment of being bad at social interactions but still wanting to spend time with someone. Seriously, when Sam said “I don’t like parties, I’d rather die” all we could think was “us too, bestie!” At the same time, we’re pretty sure “the only thing that’s making me stay here is your eyes” is the sweetest lyric we’ve ever heard in a song.
