With spooky season upon us, there’s plenty to look forward to. From making that perfect Halloween playlist and picking the appropriate snacks to deciding on your costume and decorating your room or workspace. There’s just so much to look forward to. But wait, something’s missing from that list. What could it be? Of course, the movies! We can’t have a holiday without our fair share of binge-worthy titles.
You are probably already choosing your next horror flick, or maybe you are looking for something on the fun side to watch. And this is where we come in. We are here to remind you of the lighter movie choices that still carry out the theme of the season just perfectly. For this Halloween time, we prepared a list of five of our favorite animated movies for a sweeter yet chilling holiday.
Hotel Transylvania
Did someone ask for a family movie? Why not Hotel Transylvania? It has it all: the family bonds, the love that exceeds norms and expectations, struggles and acceptance of different kinds (humans and monsters), and the funny, creepy scenes that come together for a laughing and entertaining experience. And to make this even better, there’s not one, not two, but a whole set of four movies to go through. Add the little series, and you will have much more to binge during October. Will this be one of your picks to watch this ghastly month?
Coraline
If you are leaning towards a more spooky experience but want to still keep it animated, Coraline is the perfect fit. With its creepy plot mixed with a fun yet dangerous adventure, this is a must-see around Halloween time. Coraline is just a little girl who longs to escape her tedious everyday life and to be seen by her family. And when she discovers a secret passageway to her dream, well, that’s when it all gets twisted. We don’t know about you, but we may have just talked ourselves into re-watching this one (again).
Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!
Scooby-Doo‘s whole franchise is a Halloween binge-worthy experience. With Mystery Inc. always on the hunt for monsters, even if they usually turn out fake, this will be a fun time for all ages to sit together and have a little spooky fun. But we have just the title if you want to get fully engrossed in the holiday! Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! follows our favorite mystery-solving team facing the unexpected: the lack of cases. But how long does it really last? But one Halloween animated movie is not enough! Well, you’re in luck! The Scooby gang has two dedicated movies for you: Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo and Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo!
The Addams Family
Back on the dark comedy side of animated movies, we can’t have this list completed without the renowned The Addams Family. Another franchise with a lot of movies and series to help you hop on the binge train. Our recommendation? The latest animated movies (we have to match with our theme after all). It’s creepy, it’s kooky, and it’s everything you’d expect from an Addams Family show. And while you’re at it, why not stream both animations?
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Of course, we are ending with a classic. What kind of Halloween movie list would it be if we didn’t add an iconic title such as The Nightmare Before Christmas? If you don’t watch this every year, we don’t know what you’re doing. We’ve been waiting for the perfect time to sing ‘This Is Halloween,’ and it has finally arrived. It’s time to welcome back the Pumpkin King himself onto our streaming history. And let’s be honest: pick any Tim Burton animation, and you won’t go wrong. They all fit the spooky season, which creates a long list for you to pick from and get in the Halloween spirit.
Did we save your Halloween? There are more titles to choose from, but we think we covered a good diversity here. Which of these animated movies are you adding to your Halloween watch list? What other ones are your favorite? We’ll be at @thehoneypop, Facebook, and Instagram, waiting to hear from you while we get our binge essentials ready.
